Fastest way of loosing BF without loosing mass

MS, why are you so against keto diets? (I know you have a good reason, I'm curious).

That beats the hell out of me too. For some reason half the people here basically keep telling me that close to 1/4 of my body weight (60lbs) that i've lost was all water weight. If thats not BS, then i don't know what is ;)

Hell, the initial part of ANY weight loss is water weight. Of my first 20lbs lost, 12 or 13lbs of it was probably water weight.

Well most of them just don't have a clue what the hell they are talking about. But, MS does so that's why I'm curious...

In no way am I against keto diets. I'll say that once again. I am not against keto diets. I currently have 3 clients doing exceptionally well on a modified Atkins diet. I am merely of the opinion that they are remedial, especially for body BUILDERS but for dieters in general. If all else fails (for whatever reason) then by all means try a keto diet.

I am against zealots. If you're not sure what that means then think of ben Laden or Jim Jones or many fruititarians etc....

Alfons wants to lose 7-8 lbs of "pure fat" in 4 weeks. As KWKSLVR sagely pointed out most of the weight lost in the first two weeks of a keto diet is water weight (more so if you're obese to begin with). So I feel it is misleading of KWKSLVR to IMPLY that he lost 20lbs of FAT in 2 weeks.

I don't know the composition of weight lost by KWKSLVR. Obviously a lot of it was water weight in the first few weeks. This is extra good news if you are hypertensive because your BP will no doubt drop as well. KWKSLVR is not a bodybuilder as far as I can ascertain, so a lot of the subsequent weight loss will likely be a balance of fat and muscle. That's fine by me (recommended by me) if your goal is to reduce overall bodyweight for health reasons. I just don't think that this is the only diet for people wanting to lose fat AND retain muscle while dieting. I also don't think this should be the first choice of a diet. I definitely don't think it's ideal for many bodybuilders who genuinely need carbs to maintain strength and muscle. I know I am at odds with mods such as MR X in this, but I gotta ask whatever happened to the concept of moderation in all things. A CKD can be useful for bodybuilders, but is not without risks both to insulin sensitivity and rebound weight gain once the diet is stopped. For the record I have counselled all 3 of my keto clients that they may have to eat this way for the rest of their life if they don't want serious rebound problems. They cannot control their diet when carbs are introduced and I still haven't found a way around this. Let's learn good lifestyle habits first and if that fails THEN we can think about extreme measures.

Good post, thanks. So, why are you against keto diets? Haha, j/k

I have a suggestion for avoiding the fat regain, something that just happened to work for me (not that it will necessarily work for them, but who knows). Try putting them on a isocaloric-type diet But separate their carbs and fat.

For example, meal 1 contains 40g of protein, 60g of carbs and 0-10g of fat. Meal 2 contains 40g of protein, 0-10g of carbs and 20-30g of fat and so on.

Just a suggestion.

Thanks crackerot, it's something to keep in mind. The only clients I currently have on a keto diet are females with a binge eating type of disorder. Give them even a smidgen of carbs and they tend to go WAY overboard. I know there is a close link between serotonin and CCK levels in many women with eating disorders, and I have also seen the results of bulimic/anorexic women that lose control of thier diet. So I am hesitant to introduce carbs back in to their diet in their circumstances. For the record I have yet to have a client that DIDN'T have an eating disorder fail on a standard high protein/moderate carb/low fat diet. I guess that's all I'm really saying here.
