Diet for a Novice

New member
Hey y'all I am new to this forum, and relatively new to fitness. I am 5'7", 137lb, and my goal is to lose 10-12 lbs in the next few months. I dont have a set workout routine, or diet, but I am ready to make a commintment to improve my health and physique. For the last 2 weeks I have been using the eliptical machine at school for 45 minutes 3 times per week, and circuit training on machines 2 times a week. I have noticed some improvement but i know that if a had a better diet and workout plan, the results would be more drastic. I dont want to me too muscular, but I want a body that looks like i work for it. I would be very greatfull if y'all can help me set up a diet and workout program.

Thanks in advance, Alex :)

Check the sticky at the top of the board, there are two that can help you.

One - the title has something about a Clen cycle, but has good diet links in it.

Two - Guide to Physique Enhancement - it has some non-relevant stuff, but has some good diet foods in there, as well as basic diet info.

This is info you can eaily get if you take some time, and do some research on this board (Women's Bd) and the Diet Bd.

What EXACTLY do you eat now? SPECIFIC as you can get. When do you workout? When do you eat? How about water intake?

WELCOME! :)

Welcome.....just wonderin why you want to lose weight? You should be in that range due to your height.

Gymgurl has a good point. I'm guessing you really just want to lose fat and harden up. Since muscle is denser than fat, it takes up less space. If you traded 5 lbs of fat for 5 lbs of muscle, you'd actually be smaller. As for me, I've gained about 10 lbs from lifting, but dropped 2 pant sizes. Don't be afraid of a "higher" scale weight - if it's muscle weight, it'll raise your metabolism, making it easier to stay lean.

Weights will get you there, but women really have to lift hard and heavy to make visible changes. Most women are afraid to do this, because they think they'll magically bulk up. But no matter how hard you work in the gym, diet will be at least 80% of your results. Here's a great link: http://www.stumptuous.com/weights.html

Wow! I weigh 145 & am only 5'4", so you are in a good range weight-wise. As FF asked, do you want to harden up?

If you want diet advice, post up EXACTLY what you eat & when & we can critique....

My brother put me in a 2 week diet that consists mostly of salmon, turkey and chicken. I try to work out at least 5 times a week but it is hard because I cannot find myself motivated enough and I feel as if sometimes going is pointless because I do not try hard enough. Also, since I am kinda new to all of this, I'm afraid of overdoing it. I also don't know if I should have an actual work out routine or just do whatever feels tight for the day. My water intake is not that bad but I guess it could be better.

Thanks!
