Critique this lean mass gain diet

My buddy at school has put on 8 pounds in 3 month while only gaining 1/4" on his waist. He is a clean lifter and lifts monday through saturday for about 25-30 minutes a session, 1 part a day. Sunday off. He does cardio every morning for 35-45 minutes except sunday. Here is his daily menu he gave me.

2 scoops whey, 2 tbs. sallflower oil

6 oz. chicken, 1 can spinach, 1 tbs. flax oil, 1 oz. almonds

2 cans tuna, 1 can green beans, 1 tbs. flax oil, 1 oz. almonds

2 oz. chicken, 2 tbs. natty peanut butter

WORKOUT

2 scoops whey, 65 grams of carbs (dextrose

1 scoop whey, 6 oz. chicken, 1 yam, 1 cup oats

He says its about 3300 calories but it looks like more. No one in the gym can eat all this fat, they are skeptical but I am telling you, this guy kicks ass. He says wehn he cuts for a couple months in June and July he cuts out the yam, 15 grams from post workout, and another 300 calories or so from earlier meals.

Is this possible? I thought you need carbs in your preworkout meal. He used to be in the military and says that you would be suprised what the body can actually do. Oh yeh, on Sunday he also has a moderate carb day where he takes in 4000 calories, 3000 when cutting. He changes his routine every 3 weeks. From 1 body part a day to push/leg/pull M-T-W. Thurday off then repeats that. He only does that for another 3 weeks to avoid overtraining. Then back tot he 1 part a day for 6 days. Any comments on this insane plan so I can tell him. He says that he is anabolic for about about 12 hours and all day Sunday, that is all he needs, whatever that means.
 
Maybe someone can do an official count, but I would really be suprised if that is even close to 3300 calories.

2830, but i went kinda low on my estimates, my guess is about 3k

by the way looks like a good diet to me, and *gasp* he combines fat & carbs and he's in great shape? ;)
