correlation between weakness and pain??

ok, for the past couple years I have always had a lot of pain and soreness in my lower back at the illiac crest(where the butt meets the back). chiro, blah-blah, none of it has helped. I know think for some reason it may be related to a weakness I have in an exercise done around that area. When I stand up and do side leg raises, just keep the leg straight and raise it directly up and to the side, I get a good burn there. Could they be related, it might sound like to help the pain I need to strengthen the hip flexors which I believe the lat leg raise does???

thanks so much for any help, the lower back kills!!

sacroilliac= SI

not hip flexors but hip extensors. glutes, tensor fascia latae, etc. you dont need any more pull from the hip flexors. you need stabilization in your glute, hamstring, lower back chain.

how is your flexibility in your lower back? do you have swayback or an excessive pelvic tilt to the front? any scoliosis?

here is a simple test you can do. when you stand still, is there any tension (squeeze) in your glutes? if they are soft like butter or totally relaxed, chances are you are tilting your pelvis forward, leaving your spinal erectors to do most of your hip stabilization. tip your hips slightly forwards, or basically squeeze your glutes slightly to activate them and alleviate some of the load on your back.
