I AM INTERESTED IN STUDYING FOR A CDL ( COMMERCIAL DRIVERS LICENSE), I WANT TO MAKE SOME GOOD MONEY. DOES ANYBODY DRIVE THE BIG RIGGS OR KNOW OF ANY INFO ON IT? GIVE ME SOME ADVICE.
I know several people with CDL's who drive both the Big rig's and straight (dump) trucks. I would not say any of them make "BIG MONEY". $50-75k per year.
But hey if you wanna sit on your ass and screw lot lizards at $50 a pop it's a great gig!
i come from a family where every male has driven(on my dad's side) and they get fat, always away from family, bad business for it right now, fuel is a shit load, the rules are getting stricker due to sept 11,alot of work but lots of money
i say it isn't worth it but if you need it to live then go for it and enjoy the country
I have my cdl and drive for one of the big 3. First of all I shower each and everyday and the fuel cost doesn't concern me because I have a fuel card from the company. I bring my own food out on the road and only hit a buffett at one of the truck stops once a week to save my hard earned money. My cousin has his own rig and makes about $1 per mile and he grossed $168,000 last year. After expenses he still took home clean $96,000. If you have any type of self control you will watch what you eat and excercise 2-3 vtimes per week. Most of the companies have operating centers throughout the country and canada and have a gym in the operating centers. You could also find a local gig that pays well and be home everynight, or a dedicated account that does the same. Truck drivers keep this country moving and catch a bad rap most of the time. Many companies will train you for free as long as you stay with them for a year with no strings attatched. CDL schools can cost from $600 to $3500 and PLEASE do not get caught buying a cdl license because many people are getting caught and its a felony! Wouldn't you want to know that you can safely drive the rig and not hurt someones family or yourself??? schneider, swift, jb hunt are a few of the big ones so check out their websites and see what they have to offer. GOOD LUCK and I will look for the websites for them and drop you a note. RIZZO
My friend was telling me that if a truck driver has a lizard sticker on his cab, it means he's up for a ho at truck stops. True, or just a rumor. Rizzo, maybe you can answer this.
Riz, No one is implying that drivers are not a crutial part of our economy. Just to give the thread poster a heads up to the sometimes non typical life of a Long Haul driver.
