Cardio on an empty stomach..I could just barf!

Ok so I am sure there are mixed reactions to enduring 75 minutes of cardio on an empty stomach. They say you will burn more fat. This maybe true, but has anyone else felt like they were gonna pass out or feel nausea from doing this? The other day I thought I would try it, usually I carb up before my cardio class and this day I decided to go empty. I could barely make it through the class. I felt sick, weak, and just plain crappy!! Any sugestions on a good clean breakfast that will keep my carb intake low but give me enough energy to complete my work out.

I agree, anything over 60 is way too much. On the other hand I take my ALA prior to am cardio just to make sure I get that feeling faster...

60 min at a time is pretty much my upper limit too. Plus the gym staff doesn't like it much when you puke on the cardio equipment -- makes it a little slippery for the next guy

Whew !!!!!! 75 minutes?! 40 is PLENTY for me!! LOL - I do the revolving stairs for 30, then the bike for 10.....

Those stairs (I call it "The Beast") will make you feel like puking easily!

I'm with everyone else...75 min is WAY too much. Drop it down to about 45 min to an hour and you will probably not have a problem doing it on an empty stomach

Me too.

I also feel tired and crappy if I work out first thing in the AM on an empty stomach. My trainer wants me to do 60 min of cardio daily before breakfast during my cutting phase. I am dreading it because when I've done it before I feel like I'm in slo-mo and have no energy. Combine this with the stupidity and crabbiness that comes from carb deprivation and I'm a real ray of sunshine to be around. I usually work out after work, and don't eat dinner til 9 PM as a result, so I know I'm getting a good meal the night before. This doesn't seem to make any difference in my performance. Are the benefits really that much greater, or should I tell him to piss up a rope?

I can ONLY do cardio on an empty stomach, but then I rarely go more than 30-40 min. I always do AM cardio on empty stomach. If I've eaten (even just a little bit) I feel like I'm carrying bricks in my gut

If you are in a carb-depleted state doing cardio (FTITM, empty stomach) - you are more likely to burn LBM.

If I'm doing intense cardio, I can't eat anything for an hour or so before or I'll feel sick to my stomach, but when I do 6AM cardio I have a VERY small snack at 5:15 AM - usually a piece of wheat bread, sometimes 1/2 cup cottage cheese.
I'd be ravenous & ready to pass out before 7:00 otherwise.

The 75 min cardio class, is an advanced athletics class. Basically 15 min warm up, 45 intence high impact followed by 15 abs and cool down. In the middle of it is when i get the sick feeling. And my lack of energy is unbareable. As for what I eat in the pm pre work out, I try to avoid carbs and have a protein shake before bed. When I wake up, it isnt so much that I am in starvation hunger mode...I think it is just the lack of energy or sumthing..maybe it is just me.
