hey there

Are you an Okie from Muskogee?

Seriously, are you in Oklahoma somewhere? If so where? I am in Tulsa, myself.

If you are close, maybe we could train together, if not, then maybe I will see you at a meet. I will be at the WABDL Oklahoma bench championships in Mcalester, March 16th. Maybe I will see you there.

How's it going

I myself am from Enid but I go to college at Stillwater. I'm back to powerlifting after about 16 months off. When is the bench press competition?? I won't be ready to compete yet but I'd like to go to see where I stand compared to others in my weight class. Good to know there's other powerlifters in OK. Later

Hey there,

Yes a few powerlifters in Oklahoma, though not enough to suit me. Screwball is in Oklahoma as well, I think he is going to be meeting me at the McAlester meet in March. The meet will be at the fairgrounds convention center on highway 270 in McAlester on March 16th probably starting around 10 in the morning. If you are going through Tulsa to get to McAlester, you will want to take Highway 75 south to the Indian Nation's turnpike. The turnpike ends at highway 270 and the fairgrounds is on the south side of 270 1/2 mile east of the turnpike. Can't miss it.

What are you weighing and lifting right now, and at what weight? I can probably tell you where you stand right now. I am a mere 220 guy, although I will be in the 242's at this meet. Screwball is a big guy though.

Should be a great meet, there will be one or maybe two guys going over 600 in the bench, and a few going over 500. Lots of good deadlifters as well. Hope to see you there.

Sounds good

I have never actually been to a powerlifting contest. I'm weighing about 260 at 16-18% bf, down from almost 285 at 10%. When I herniated a disk in my lower back I pretty much couldn't touch a weight for a year. Now I'm back and it's coming back slowly. I'm gonna try to hit 300 lbs by next year to compete at. I'm about 6'6" so I need all the weight I can pile on. My email is [email protected] and [email protected]. I am gonna try to go to that competition to watch and learn. It sounds like a good time, much to learn before I start to compete. Thanks

Brian...

A bit smaller in size but putting up huge numbers. Pound for pound you are as strong or stronger than anyone on this board. Hell, I outweigh you by 50-60 lbs. and you're stronger than me. Damn, I felt a twinge of pain when I typed that. I gotta go to the gym. See ya!

Thanks, Screwball,

Are you going to be in McAlester on March 16th? Maybe we can have a little Elite get together with Bigokie if he decides to come on down. If not, we can go to one of the incredible Italian places over in Krebs and slam some grub. Or my grandma might be smoking a brisket, either way, would love to have you there, you too, Bigokie.

Sounds good!

Brian,

Unless something unexpected comes up I'll be there. I'm glad you mentioned eating. Eating is always a big incentive for me, ya know. Between you, Big Okie and me I bet we can do some serious damage. Hey, if we can manage to drum-up a few more guys we may be able to rival the "Florida Crew".

I have a local bench meet this weekend. It's kind of a last minute deal to be held in conjunction with an aerobics demonstration at the local mall. It's sponsored by the Gold's that I train at. Probably only a handful of lifters and real "laid back". If I see a 400 lb. bench (raw meet with pause) I'll be surprised. With only a week and a half to prepare and interrupting my training mid-cycle I certainly don't expect anything outstanding. I'll be happy if I hit 400 lbs. with good technique. Attempts will probably be 365 - 385 - 405. Talk to ya soon!

Let me know how it goes. If you weren't so far away, and it wasn't such short notice, I would come down and try and put up a few lbs myself.

Like most of the other 200+ lbers on this board eating is always a high priority to me as well. I agree we could shut down a buffet, my brother will be there handing off to me, and he is 6 foot 2 and about 230, and can put the grub away as well. It is funny, we weigh the same but he is 7 inches taller. Growing up I always thought I got the shallow end of the gene pool. But when we go to the gym, being short ain't a bad deal at all.

I would love to get to the point that we could rival the Florida crew. There are some strong sumbitches in Oklahoma, we just need to get some more meets going around here and get some better exposure. I would like to see some high school football coaches get excited about powerlifting, that would give us a bigger selection of potential powerlifters.

If you get that 400 raw that will be a pretty damn good lift. Because of a questionable shoulder, I never go real heavy on the flat bench without a shirt, so I don't know what I could do at a raw meet, but from what I read of them in powerlifting USA, 400+ is pretty darn rare.

good luck and let me know how you do.

If only...

If only I could rep 500+ raw like PLJay. Then, not only would I have a big belly but I would have a big head as well. It just isn't fair......
(ha, ha!)
