Bedtime snack...

fit1

New member
Ladies/gents...I have a question about the right-before-bedtime snack...is a protein shake alright to have before a little shuteye...or would you suggest something else????

Thanks

I always eat a meal right before I sleep. Usually cottage cheese or meat though. Whey protein is absorbed too fast, but it's better than nothing.

Seratonin

I read (in a book about sugar addiction by a pretty nutty woman)
that if you have a carb before bed (she reccomended having a potato), as long as you have had protein at dinner - you will get a boost in seratonin. This boost may cause active & sometimes vivd bad dreams.

I had a mini-carb binge before bed last night (didn't want any more fish or cottage cheese, so I had low fat wheat thins & grapes) & had awful vivid dreams (not typical for me - usually don't remember dreams at all!).

So... whey is probably better than carbs! :) Although real food protein is probably best of all.

As long as you stay within your calorie range, you should be fine. In fact, it's probably a good idea to eat before bed because you're not gonna eat for the next 8 hours or so.

I usually eat some peanut butter and all-fibery crackers.

I work out late, and I feel crappy if I don't get some protein/fat after.

Wyst
