My buddy in charge of memberships at my gym is a 60 year old lifter. Last week he told me he wanted to military 130lb dumbbells on his 60th birthday, April 1st and wanted me to be there to spot him. This morning we met up and went to a different gym(our gym only has 120# dbs). He warmed up a little and the 95’s went up really easy. He decided to try 120’s first and missed them twice. He was totally bummed. I’ve never seen him so down. It was his big birthday goal. The thing is, the bench was really different and the db handles were much thicker then ours which he always trained with and it bothered him. So, we hauled ass back to our gym and he tried the 120’s there and hit them TWICE, clean. I just watched. They went up easy and fast.
This guy is 60 years old, with fucked up elbows and a strange tricep condition on his left side, and he tossed up the 120s like they were nothing. He didn’t hit his 130 goal, but he’s 60 fucking years old and still tossed up more than most hardcore young guys.
Just a little motivational thread for the day.
