Saying finland is the greatest hockey nation is akin to comparing beer to wine ..
Unless you have failed to notice .. canada is a northern climate and winter for most of us is almost half the year so sports involing ice makes perfect sense . We make the most of what we have , thats the best anyone can ask
As for football and base ball and basketball and all the other big name sports in the united states ... well ... we can't compete because we don't have A: the population base to draw elite players from or B : The population base to support the sport as fans once a league of our own is established
USA over 300 million people .. canada 32 million ??
Shit the state of california has 33 million alone !! more then out entire country
European kids grow up with soccer etched in there brains so that sport becomes part of the culture ... canada our kids grow up around sports figures predomidently born out of hockey so it's a natural progression for them .
Likly more then all that put together is our country lacks any commitment to sport from the goverment level ... Just look at the USA for instance .. track athletes live like kings .. here our track athletes work at tim hortons pouring coffee and waiting tables so they can train at night in broken down facilities .
Its a priority thing at the highest level .. untill commitments to sports are made where athletes can all train on a fair playing ground one country will always be at a dissadvantage ...
Look at the female cyclist from edmonton who won gold in the last olympics .. it was on a borrowed bike for christ sake !!! She got her new bike 6 weeks after the games were over ... wtf : A world class athlete has now hung up her hat becasue she cannot find funding to continue .. sad
Put things into perspective first before calling down one country over another or at the very least educate yourself on the topic as not to appear ignorant ...
