Which artificial sweetener do you use?

Splenda for me.

I am one of those (not so) rare individuals who reacts badly to aspartame. If consume aspartame (and it is easy to do by accident... I cannot believe how many things it is in), I break out in ulcers on my tongue and in my throat - not pleasant.

Man, you guys in the US have so much to choose from. Here in Europe, I've never seen Splenda, so it's aspartame for me. Fortunately, although I've been drinking enormous amounts of sodas with aspartame for decades, I've never had any problems. At least none that are apparent to me.

Splenda definitely tastes best IMO but it's wayyy expensive.

Good news on Sweet n Low is that it was taken off the u.s. government's list of known cancer causing agents so it should be safe at least.

That should actually be If I consume aspartame...

Assuming you do not have a bad reaction to any artificial sweetener, then it is a matter of taste. If you search the Internet, you will find a site for every artificial sweetener swearing that it causes every disease imaginable - but this stuff is used by the ton in everything from gum to candy bars to soda. In truth, I imagine that some people have a predisposition to <some ailment>, and in SOME cases one of these chemicals is a trigger...

Just a note - if you are going to expose the sweetener to heat, use Splenda. I am not certain about the others, but Aspartame breaks down in heat.

For those interested, aspartame breaks down into phenylalanine, aspartic acid, and methanol. Phenylalanine and aspartic acid are both naturally occuring amina acids. Although the breakdown of a large quantity can upset certain balances, they are natural and are not dangerous (unless you have a rare disorder called Phenylketonuria. Every infant in the US is tested for this, so if you have it, you know). The methanol causes a LOT of controversy, but it is only 10% of aspartame's breakdown products. And aspartame is 600x sweeter than sugar... it it NOT enough to cause problems.

most aspartame issues are "likely" related to phenylalanine.

Splenda is supposed to become widely available in europe, though sure that you can order it from the US.
