Well boys...I messed up a little and it cost me A LOT!

This is exactly why I've always thought that IV lasix was the best way to go. It's like a crapshoot with orals.
The severity of the sodium/water depletion phase is greatly reduced, so you feel much better in the last days, and you don't have to start dosing until real close to show time. You can "tweak" your fluid with small drips that are in and out in a hurry and get it just right.
As you know, the pros commonly have a water doctor travel with them.
Everyone has trouble with this stage of preparation, and your candor about it is refreshing. You shouldn't worry, though. You have a very refined physique, and are a sure bet to advance in our sport.

Sorry Bro. Your situation sounds like stories the Dave Palumbo relates at his seminars, which competitors are prone to let happen. It's called "I can't leave well enough alone" syndrome.

Good luck next time...

Exactly! and i know better!

Tough break bro. But don't get bummed. Next time just realize that even if you aren't 100% you'll still beat the competititon.

That's the problem with carb loading, sodium loading/restrition and dehydration. In a effort to look really sharp the day of the show, you're taking a big chance of it backfiring. You just never know. You can cut water and look dry - or flat. You can carb up and look full -- or smooth. Even the top pros in the world guess wrong.

When I did the NPC, I placed 5th but I can honestly should have come in second...IF, the decision was made at the night show. The problem is, at the pre-judge I was too dehydrated and four other guys looked better. After that, I didn't give a fuck, drank a gallon of water and ate a normal meal and looked the best I'd looked in weeks -- after it didn't count. :bawling:

Anyway, congrats on the placing and good luck at the next one.
I know what you mean. i looked better at night as well. Its a tight rope walk really.

Sorry to hear that bro, don't be too hard on yourself! Think positive, mistakes happen and as long as we know where we've gone wrong then we can only improve it for the next time.
Good luck in your next upcoming event!

You looked great Quad. You'll get 'em next show. Hopefully for the next one you can jump right from the Ohio to whichever national show your doing so you don't have to do 2 seperate contest preps.

God competitive bodybuilding is a bitch of a sport. For myself, I did 5 shows and never got my conditioning right. I won my class in 3, but, soley based on mass, structure & symmetry, never on conditioning, thats for damn sure. I thought I was so educated on it, never cheated on a diet even once, never, planned everything perfectly, etc., and in 5 times, I never got it right. Frankly, looking back, never even close to right.

Last time I said this I was flamed by you :) I said "diuretics went out with the square wheel" I even know an olympia competitor who does not use diuretics now, Wilson6 helped me out with my water depletion and carbs and wow, I was so freaking dry. You can easily do it with water manipulation and not have to worry about when a drug is gonna kick in and how effective it is going to be in the depleted state your body is currently in. Here is a pic of just simple water depleting day before nationals for me.

I am sure you will totally kick ass next time :)

Sorry to hear Quad. I know you've heard this before but I'll say it anyway......You will not believe how many times this happens. People go in dialed in and then tinker with water/sodium, get sick and go flat. Then the night of the show, (after some carb intake) they look like they got robbed and the crowd boos. Also, I think most people that love this sport and don't actually compete, need to remember this when they go to the shows and boo. Sometimes the judges are correct on Friday.
