Hi guys as the title says I am Cubanito's bro.I am 15 and I powerlift just as Cubanito. See a I got a little problem. Last monday I got a terrible flu which I still have but right now its not more than a runny nose.I did have a high fever though, body aches, and EXTREME WEAKNESS. I did not go to school all that week and did not lift weights.I spent the whole week in bed. It also turns out that I lost 10 lbs,6 of which I gained back. Today after school I did lift though,as Im getting back to the normal routine. When I lifted today I did terrible,it seems I have lost a good 30 lbs on my bench. My question is will I gain the weight back and strength back over a matter of a few days or is it gone and I have to work for it again? Thank you all.

You may wanna register under a new name....shouldn't be too hard.

You'll gain back right away. It's called muscle memory :)

Na dude don't worry about it. Its just because your still sick. I take a week off before and after comps and i don't seem to loose anything so jsut get back on track when you feel better.

dude, same thing happened to me with strep-throat. Trust me, it won't take too terribly long to get back in action. You'll just have to fight through it, keep training and not get discouraged. TRUST ME. Same exact thing happened to me. It sucks I know but just take it in the chin and move on

Are you dehydrated? This is the most common problem when getting over the flue. Double or triple you water intake over the next few days, extra vitamin A, and vitamin C (C should be taken every four hours) can help. Vitamin E never hurt, and any other anti-oxidants that you happen to have laying around.

Hey guys it's me cubanito I didn't know my bro posted this. Bad thing is now he gave me the flu or whatever the hell he had I got it, IT SUCKS. Either way we're both taking our multis and everything he's almost over it and I'm just starting it. I wish I could double my intake or triple but I don't even feel like eating. I feel sooooo weak. I havn't lifted since the meet I might just do as GRIMM and take off the rest of this week until monday. I know i'll feel weak but it's better to be rested. I broke my own lil record though with having this yesterday I slept from 5 p.m. til 6 a.m. this morning a whole 13 hours. My record was 10hours. Either way I think that wore me down TOO much sleep. hope we both get over and outta this quick.

THAT sucks dude, My arms and chest feel good but my back is still sore as shit. I may go in tonight and do some restorative work to help me recover and flush my erectors with some blood and hopefully can speed squat on saturday but thats all im diong for back. Tomorrow i might try to do a max bench day but will see. Just take it easy and don't worry about getting into the gym. Your strenght will be there when you do.

Thanks man. Hey I was just thinking about something I might not be able to do the June 1st meet b/c I'm graduating May 31st and then with all the parties and shit I dunno if I'll be able to do it. Hopefully I can b/c I really want to see where I'm at with suiting up. If I don't then oh well until the next meet. I'll have to find out more details about grad night, project graduation, and all those good things seniors have to do.

Hey guys since I'm really picky to eat I know like when your sick you should eat ALOT and drink ALOT more than the usual to get better quicker. Well i don't like soups or any of those things and I know they're good when your sick but I can't stand them so I decided to make a shake today. Now I know I've said I can't put on weight and I'm going to start taking a weight gainer well I just invented 30 minutes ago an awesome shake and I'm sure it's gonna put good and some bad weight on me. I love milk shakes especially when I'm sick I dunno why, but I do. So this is what I did I got 2 cups of milk put it in a blender then I got 2 scoops of Isopure vanilla protein shake and threw it in 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream 1 jello pudding choc/vanilla swirl and 1 Snickers bar. put it in the blender for about 45 seconds and when I drank it, it was the best shake i've ever had it has about 75g of protein which is good and who knows how much carbs. So I think I found my awesome tasting weight gainer. you guys who train over comp bodyweight should try this. and for those that do try it let me know what you tought of the shake.

that sounds damn good. Other than you can only digest about30-40 g of protien at a time it will definitly put some weight on you

OH YEA forgot about that little detail although i thought it was 50g at a time. And would like amino acids help you digest protein better like L-Glutamine.

Aigh bro let me know how you like that shake. I already have on the weekly grocery list 1 gallon of ice cream, jello pudding snacks, and a box of snickers. this is gonna be the shake I drink before going to sleep. In fact I might just make another one soon. My mom tried it and loved it upset i didn't tell her what I put in it once I told her i put in a protein supplement she started finding a weird taste, which is bullshit she just doesn't like me taking those shakes b/c she doesn't think I have to get any bigger. WRONG!!!! I'll be drinking minimum 1/day.

GRIMM

It's too bad that I live so far away for many reasons one I'd love to train with ya if you mostly train by yourself I can relate to ya b/c i do too. And two b/c your girls sis the 16 year old doesn't look bad AT ALL. One thing that I'd have to get used too is the voice(accent) kinda weird but hey whatever :D ;)

hey guys I was looking at the cal intake today when I made my shake and it turns out to be from 700-800 cals I've had two today If I can eat whatever i see and drink 2 of these shakes I'll pass 3,000 cals and get a good 1g/lb I weigh. So gaining weight/strength here I come.

Actually, the 30 - 40 grams of protein is all you can digest at one sitting is a myth that has persisted for decades. There is absolutely no factual evidence to support this. Digestion will vary far more due to size, BMR, and what else you eat with your protein, such as fats which delay gastric emptying.

Also, ginger has been shown to improve protein absorption.

That's good to know I heard, myth or not i dunno, that taking amino acids/complexes helps the breaking down of protein synthesis so I take those at night and hopefully it breaks down in my body. Either way as long as it doesn't affect me or hurt me I'm good.

The only time specific amino's have been shown to help, other than glutamine, is when they are administer directly into the intestine via tube feeding. I do not think you should be doing this.

If you are getting a decent amount of protein in your diet, both from whole foods (the best way) and protein supplementation (the convenient way) you should be fine. You could, of course, look up the specific micronutrient ratio of everything you are eating and total the amounts. If you are particularly weak in one amino, you can supplement it.

Protein synthesis is increased by glycogen transport. Post workout is when the highest levels are possible, so a large supply of hi GI carbs, such as dextrose or maltodextrin, plus a fast acting protein, such as whey, can work wonders. Otherwise, aside from ginger, which I previously mentioned, not a lot can improve it.

Whey by itself is not the greatest, as it is so fast acting. A whey/caesin combo is great, except post workout. The casesin will slow down the absorption of whey, cause a nice, steady insulin response and even uptake (relatively) of protein.
