was thinking we could start a thread about what foods should be on a bodybuilders shopping list, i eat the same food whether i am bulking or cutting i just change the ratios so i think that 1 list will do the trick and will help people that are new to lifting get on the right track, so i will put a few must haves and whatever you guys wanna add.

1.oatmeal(not instant)
2.brown rice
3.Turkey Burger(lean)
4.Tuna Fish
5.Chicken Strips
6.eggs, or egg whites if you have bad cholesterol

there is a few of my must haves and i think that most of you would agree on them, now after you guys add to it we can make the Ultimate List and possibly make it a sticky.

whey protein
potatoes
yams
casein protein
milk (if bulking)
lean beef (can get 97% lean beef, same as turkey)
turkey sausauge (maybe not the best, but taste damn good with decent macs)
green beans
brocolli
cauliflower
apples, strawberries, blackberries, or blueberries are pretty good choices for fruits

Very good Idea. i'm always having trouble on what to eat and what to buy. :Chef:

I suggest oat bran instead of oat meal (especially in cutting). Tastes same, but 70% more fibre and protein, more vitamins and minerals and less carbs and 2/3 the KJ's.

Also I personally think sweet potatoe is the ultimate clean carb and is more nutritious than oatmeal (the fats in oatmeal are poly unsaturated, and are one of the reasons for its low GI). better just use sweet potatoe and add it with salmon or some other healthier fat.

wow i cant believe i didn't know that, thanks for letting me know

I hate oatmeal and have no idea why it got such a rep as a bodybuilders food. It's a low nutrition starchy carb like any other.

I'd say make sure you have some fiber foods -- I like Bran Flakes and Shredded wheat. Other than that, protein, protein, protein. The rest takes care of itself.

Oatmeal is better than wheat cereals because oatmeal contains soluble fibre (beta gluten), whereas wheat contains insoulble fibre.

The difference is that soluble fibre significantly lowers GI of food, whereas insoulble does not, thus carbs in oatmeal are more slowly absorbed than from wheat.

Barley has similar properties to oatmeal
