how bad do you cheat?

I have a friend a lot younger than me that's had a lot of success by more than quadrupling his calories on that day. I'm a bit older (38) and don't wanna have a freakin heart attack or something...

I'm wondering if 5 or 6,000 calories on that day is enough to accomplish what it's supposed to.
 
Dependent upon what my current goal is, a cheat day can be all an out fest of "off-limit" foods, or it can be used primarily as a clean carb-load day to stimulate the metabolism, fill out, and replinish glycogen stores. 4 weeks out from a show, no more junk food cheat days, and two weeks out, no more carb up cheat days.

You don't have to go nuts on your cheat day to stimulate your metabolism, which is the primary goal of a cheat day by many. Some also use this as a day to "let go" and throw caution to the wind for mental/relaxation reasons as well. Only you can decide where you lie in your quest for the perfect cheat day.

thanks for the info sc...I was one of your early clients from this board, turned jg1 onto your diet a while back.
 
when i did this diet, i had good results when i did an all out cheat day, To me,and i do not compete, just try to stay fit, the only thing i disliked about cheat day was that i felt like shit after i would cheat so i cut it to just cheating at night one night a week. if i cheated all day i felt like crap and carried more water the next couple of days, but by the next week it went away, so i say if you want to all out cheat go ahead just expect to feel like shit all day

Agreed! When I was in Vegas cheating for 3-4 days, I felt horrible.

Thank goodness there was alcohol so I could forget how bad I felt, LMFAO!!

when i cheat, i eat around 5-6000 cals, lately i've been cheating alot, messed up my diet and brought a stop to my cutting process. i cheated 4 days out of a week. yikes. never do it again, save for sunday and cheat on the last meal.
 
swole, what do you think about this strategy, when i cheat , i like to cheat for a meal one night a week, lets say saturday night, have mexican, drink coronas, margaritas. When i wake up sunday i was thinking about maybe have a mini cheat breakfast, bagel, maybe muffin something to eat you know after a night of a couple drinks( i know drinking is not the smartest thing to to, just trying to live a little). then go right back to program until next saturday night.
 
Only drawback there is having all that in the evening RIGHT before bed, as opposed to earlier in the day. That's why I like to confine it to one day, and all before 6 p.m.

I basically used to eat whatever I wanted but I've begun cleaning it up (as I got lower and things got tougher). The whole "how much to cheat" thing is somthing that's gonna very by person depending on phenotype and metabolic responses to insulin.

Just have fun on your cheat day and dont worry about it
