stretching before or after weights?

I've found that stretching a cold muscle can be very dangerous, but I have always been told since we were kids in PE that we are needed to stretch before running around and playing. as an adult i have done this and ended up pulling muscles and actually making the muscle tighter before lifting weights. what is your opinion?
 
if you are playing a sport where you will be bent in all directions like wrestling or football for example then yeah i can see stretching before. but for weight training it makes zero sense to stretch a muscle before, imagine stretching a frozen rubber band, that is what you are doing. WARM UP before, but stretch AFTER
 
Always after exercise or a workout. What I have been doing is stretching twice per day. I do a little warmup in the morning and then stretch, and the same thing before bed. I hate getting old!
