sprint intervals

In 2 months, as soon as i get up to 195, im going to do a small cutting cycle...I've heard that doing interval sprints were best for cutting fat while preserving/even building a little muscle. Can someone give me a breakdown as far as days/times/amount to do when i decide to cut for best fatburning results?

3 times a week or 4?
30 second sprint/1 minute walk?
how many of these?
etc?

thanks guys

I've never heard anyone who's tried sprints that was disappointed. Are they "best" for fat burning? That will be debated for years to come. In the meantime, try it and figure out what works for you.

When I did them, I did 30/60, just like you mention, three days a week. Give it a try. See how you like it.

gymtime, how many per each day? or was it timed?? 30 minutes or so?

Do them on rest days?? or keep them with normal training days?

I usually run 50m or 100m distances. The time I take for a break is the only the time I take to walk the same amount of distance. So I would sprint 100m and then walk 100m then sprint 100m. Right now I am doing 60m. When I hit 10 sets of these I will go to 70m and when I hit 10 of those I will go up to 80m and so forth

Damn you guys are in shape! I was doing slow cardio for 2 months on a stationary bike and just today started interval "sprints" on the bike with max tension for 20 seconds at 20-25 mph. That`s ALL OUT for me, and after 20 minutes and 4 or five of these I was DEAD DEAD I had to lay down for a while.

What I did was rest like 3 or 4 minutes to get my heart rate back to ALMOST normal before the next set. Is that wrong to wait that long. No way can I do 30 seconds. lol

Zander, thank you very much for the article..I'm going to give the last method a try, looks like fun!

I would go with a 2:1 rest to work ratio for aroung 8-10 intervals.

Agreed. This usually translated into about 20 minutes or so. I was exhausted by the end. I think this is something you want to do on an off day. I would not do sprints post-workout.
