SLDL, lower back or not?

are u supposed to push with ur hips forward when you do them stiff legged? cuzz i just use all lower back. Is that safe? lol

i think its all dependent on your body structure, but primarily it should hit your hammstring and gluts pretty hard. but my back always got good work from them too. the way i do them is to stand up with the weight and push my but back first to go down, making sure my knees stay slightly bent and that my back has a good arch. then i go down untill the bar almost touches the ground and flex my glutes and hams to muscle the weight back up.

Good, im not the only one whois back screams from this. i think im forgetting to flex my glutes. ill try it tuesday n see how it helps, thx.

For the first couple of months my lower back was seriously burning after this exercise. But after awhile as it got used to it, and i was progressing with normal deadlifts where its stressed even more, now my hams and glutes hurt so much from the various deadlifts i perform, i have to avoid to overtrain them.

the reason your hamstrings are not getting the majority of the work is b/c you let your back round, if you keep a stiff arch through the exercise you will use mainly hamstrings

By rounding of the back, do u mean lower or upper back? I just started using Deads so prolly my form is completely off. I just make sure to lock out my shoulders into my spine, is that whats ment by strait back?

I keep my back stiff shoulders back and low back arched, I push my butt back an then drag the bar down my legs, this method will recruit hamstrings more than any other exercise I know
