safflower oil or soybean oil?

young guns

New member
real mayo is made of soybean oil and egg yolks, among some other stuff, but i've also heard of safflower mayo.

both soybean and safflower oils are high omega-6 content right? and which is better in terms of the other fatty acids - omega-3, omega-9, monounsaturates?

so basically, which mayo is better?

none of them

either you do your own mayo

or try to find a mayo with olive oil and/or canola oil

you don't need omega 6s
omega 3s are what you're looking for

not 100% true. Omega 6's are also vital, still an EFA therefore not synthesizable by the body. I will agree with you on the point at hand... for fitness goals... just remember where you're going for your 2:1 ratio.

any omega oil is better than a saturated fat
quit quibbling fine lines
you can get lots of omega3 elsewhere
mayo is da bomb

I like safflower mayo. I get mine from "Whole Foods". They also carry canola mayo, but I would rather safflower. Safflower is also a good source of vitamin E.

do you prefer safflower for the taste? the canola mayo sounds like a good option since canola has higher monounsaturated content and less omega-6. although i'd like to find some olive oil mayo for the monounsaturates, but for some reason i don't think it'd taste all that great.
