Red Meat...

How much red meat would be unhealthy daily? I have 5 oz. a day as of now of chuck shoulder roast. Really good. Easier to get down than chicken and tuna. I was wondering how much I should have before it becomes detrimental. I know too much fish isn't good either, which is why I limit myself to a can of chunk light every day. Sometimes two.

I ask because the steak is so much easier to eat. So much more tasty and I just love my bloody meat.

Well, I don't think that question has an exact answer. I beleive over eating red meats probably just goes into your colon for a long time, but as to the max .. it would probably vary from person to person. You could probably eat a fair ammount if spread over the day.

5oz./day is not bad at all. If you increase the amount of calcium in your diet (drink 2-3 glasses of milk a day) you'll be even better off. Read this article for info:

Apparently, calcium rich products reduce the risk of cancer. For those with access, check out the article in Cancer Research. Interesting read:

Bottom line: I wouldn't worry, but keep it under 1/2 lb/day just to be safe.

I have never seen a study proving that red meat is bad for you

Read meat high in fat is to be avoided

BBQing red meat for hours is carcinogenous

Apart from that, why not eat 1 lb = 450g red meat / day ?

The average Joe (read the lazy fat ass) should worry about iron overload

But, us, as BBer, we have much iron needs which also mean that we can ingest more Fe rich food before Fe poisoning
