Well see they don't go in one end and out the other. They do work. They are pasteurized which is basically heating the product untill any Salmonella and Eschera Coli are killed but the product is not cooked. I think people would have realized this before they started drinking raw egg whites years ago.

Also, some cooking denatures the protein. I dont see how it can be good to cook any protein except for health reasons. Most protein doesn't benefit from being cooked. So your saying by not cooking I'm NOT getting protein? Thats wrong. Otherwise the label would read differently.

Keep in mind cooking too much isnt good for the protein. Also found this quote:

"The simple solution is to cook the egg whites as this completely deactivates the avidin. The problem is that it also completely deactivates nearly every other protein in the egg white. While you will still obtain nutritional benefits from consuming cooked egg whites, from a nutritional perspective it would seem far better to consume them uncooked."

From this website: http://www.mercola.com/2002/nov/13/eggs.htm

I agree there yes

Just cook them

No benefit to eat them raw

The "denatures the protein" is BS when you're talking about applied nutrition

At one stage I used to eat them raw on a daily basis, however my stomach went through a series of bloatedness and I couldn't tolerate it after awhile (not to mentioned how repulsive it tasted).
I would much prefer to have them lightly cooked (despite some protein being destroyed). In any case, I rely on getting protein of my protein powder & meat. (and I assumed that's how ya'll get it too)

OK so I have been reading in some nutritionists report that raw egg whites do nothing for us as we get nothing from them unless they are cooked

does anyone have any answers on this as I have been drinking raw egg whites as part of my diet for a couple of years now and if this means ive been gettin no protein out of this im gonna be pissed...

Oh and is it bad to be drinking raw egg whites at say 8 - 10 per day

Anyone have any comments???

Egg protein (albumin) digestion is way better when cooked, no doubt. you do digest sum when Raw but not way as much!

Well right now for me its either raw or in a microwave because I'm in college. Honestly, they taste better raw.

Cooked protein goes through folding and becomes more bioavailable. Looking at a loss of at least 30% when uncooked.Egg white is albumin and is 'faster' than caesin and slower than whey.

But if you choose to drink'em raw, it's safe because they are pastuerized....well, the egg whites in cartons are.

I've been reading that there is Avidin in raw egg whites, and unless you cook them, Avidin keeps your body from digesting the protein. You must cook them to neutralize the Avidin, and the possible threat of salmonella. I think only one in every 30,000 eggs contains the bacteria salmonella, and while this is pretty low, it is still possible. It is more dangerous for very ill, or elderly people, or pregnant women.

I dont really understand the whole egg white thing. Why not eat the egg yolk also? The egg yolk is the major source of the eggs vitamins, minerals, fat, and about half of the eggs protien.

The yolk also usually has around 270 mg of Cholesterol in one.

Thats almost 70% of your daily value of cholesterol.

Plus the yolk is high in saturated fat.

It gives some an upset stomach also because it is so rich.

Well I have never bought the ones in a carton always cracked open the egg and poured the white in to a glass I have done this for quite a few years and has never harmed me at all I usually do this in the morning as a way of gettin a few extra proteins in the morn and cannot stomach much when I first get up so I usually just add them to my protein shake.

For all the do`s and dont`s for now im gonna keep douing it and as for food poisoning ect I dont even remember having an upset stomach throughout my whole life I mean c`mon people have been doing this for years so I will carry on but as for the yolks F**K that shit...:RADAR
