Question about "The Abs Diet"

Is this book worth buying? I am looking for something to help me lay out a long term plan. I noticed this book is a 6 week program, but I was hoping it would help me out long term. Anyone have any experience with this book?

No experience with the book, but you know what? It likely contains nothing that you can't learn from the internet for free. Dieting isn't complicated, but it can be if you make it that way. And you can rearrange basic diet info. into a nifty "6 week plan" but in the end, it's still the basics -- eat less, exercise more. The rest is just details.

I know that's not very helpful so I'll add some detail. Figure out what you eat on a daily basis. Then, you can really see what you're putting into your body. Next, get rid of the junk (if you eat junk). This alone might help. Next step, reduce your calories slightly, and start doing some cardio exercise. Calories in vs. calories out. The pounds will start to drop. Oh yeah, and don't forget to keep lifting heavy throughout to send signals to your body to hold onto its muscle.
 
Thanks for the info! So would doing the SF 5x5 program be ok while eating below maintance? Also, will doing cardio on the off days be too much? I am 6'4" 305lbs @ 27%bf. currently if it matters.

I have the small version of this book - "Abs Diet: Eat Right Every Time" - and I will say it's a nice book to have. There are a lot of ideas for clean meals and it's just very motivating in general. The smaller version was around $10 or less, so it's not a bad deal and is helpful to figure out a clean diet. What this book doesn't stress on is calories or macros, and that's something you'll have to take into account on your own.
 
I have read it too after having seen a friend do it for a few months. Seemed to work well for him. I bought the small book as well. It was worth the 7 or so bucks and gives good ideas.
 
I can't critique the book but as a general rule, anything that markets itself for "abs this or abs that" is likely to be a mass market book. You can find the right eating plan for your body if you experiment and track yourself with a food log. I recommend carb timing because it has been very successful for me. You may require a CKD which I cannot tolerate. Everyone is different and you need to find the right "formula" for you. I recommend 1.5g Protein, 1g CHO and .25g-.33g fat per pound of lbm.

Yes. I've been doing that myself. As long as you're not in a drastic calorie deficit (which you shouldn't be anyway), you can still gain strength. If you're lucky, you may be able to pick up some muscle but that's damn hard while cutting.

It depends how intense your cardio sessions are. If you're really killing yourself, then you're not letting your body recovery on your "off" days.

I started at 27% BF as well (but only weighed 200). I've come down to 169.5 so far and lost maybe 2-4 pounds of muscle at the most. I'm still coming down, but right now I'm at about 16%.
