praise for the 5x5 and new PR!

I have been on the 5x5 for almost 2 months now and it has helped me so much. I have gained 50lbs in my bench over 60lbs in deadlifts and increased greatly in all my other auxilary exercises. I have been injured alot in the past 2 years and havent been able to really get a good groove goin in the gym butr since I started this program I have gained more strength than I ever had!!!

Stats - 20 y.o. 5'10" 152-160lbs (college budget and terrible diet :( )
bench started at 115 now:165 each set
deadlift started 195 now:265 (and still wasn't too tough)

sorry for the rambling im just stoked about how much I have gained so fast!

Pretty good increase in 2 months time. How much are you increasing the weight with the program each week?

Oh, and what type of size gains came with this? Measurements? If you made a 50 lb. jump, your triceps should have grown quite a bit. I'd like to hear about that.

well I have been adding weight a little more than normal but since I have been hurt so many times and keep working out for like 4 months then stopping again my muscle memory comes back pretty quick and the weighs become pretty light. In the next couple weeks im going to just go strictly by the 5 pounds a week so I don't hit a plateau too quickly.

I have mostly seen my gains in my back because when I started the 5x5 it was the first time I had deadlifted and the first time I ever did pullups in my routine. So the gains in my back have been great but the rest of my body is growing pretty quickly also. The measurements were taken with a little metal tape-measure by me so they arent exact but fairly close and you can compare the difference.!!

Biceps: The day I started the 5x5 1-20-04
right : 13.75
left : 13.5

Today: 3-23-04
right : just under 14.5
left : little over 14

oops i started in jan not feb

WOW just got home from the gym. It was chest day so since ive been getting such good workouts lately I thought id try and max it out. Warmed up 135x10 then put on 205 (up from my last max almost a year ago before 2 broken arms of 175) and put it up 3 times!!!! Totally physced.

But I got a question.. on all 3 reps I would get it about 6 inches off my chest and it would hit like a wall and i had to use EVERYTHING I had to get it the rest of the way up. Now my question is how can I get rid of this weak point or what muscle should I work on to get it all the way up?

way to go. I'm fairly sure that if its getting stuck 1/2 way up, then its your tris that are the weak point. I found heavy weighted dips really helps with that

Good job !!....for me personally I have great success using 5X5 on every thing except my chest....I maintain and get a little stronger, but nothing compared to using the pyramid....maybe I didn't give it enough time....
