Power of Encouragement

I can't believe what a difference it makes having someone I trust & respect believe in me & TELL me they believe in me & feel that I can do it.

It's not that *I* don't think I can do it myself, but that extra boost from an external source is so powerful. I find that's the case at my job, as well as with my coach.

Just getting an e-mail from him saying, "Hang in there, your cleans are getting better." is so uplifting. I suspect he doesn't know just HOW MUCH of a difference this makes, because he is not very forthcoming with such feedback. Sure, I hear, "Turn your elbows out, chest up, eyes straight ahead" -> THAT sort of feedback. :( I don't want to be too much of a chick though & let him know I like hearing that I'm progressing well (Shoot, I have NO IDEA if the level I'm at now with Olympic Lifting is awesome or pathetic!!)

Anyways - anyone else have thoughts on the power of EXTERNAL ENCOURAGEMENT & MOTIVATION?

Yes, indeed I know about the power of external encouragement and motivation! I see what my encouraging my training partners to higher levels does for them and how strong they are becoming.

The encouragement and motivation almost always extends so much further than the training. I know that when I receive encouragement in the gym and I succeed at a particularly difficult lift, my confidence soars! And then I have more confidence in overcoming the other difficult "lifts" (areas) of my life. I truly believe there is no greater feeling than when I become a motivation for someone to better their lives and/or health and my encouragement helps someone to overcome difficulty and feel better about themselves.

Gladi, wanting positive feedback just means you are human. Everyone likes to hear and know that they are progressing well in whatever their endeavors. And that kind of positive feedback can be what makes or breaks a coach. My personal observations are that the coaches of the winningest teams always provide positive feedback/reinforcement to the team players.

Hang in there, you can do it!:D

Motivation initially comes from the inside...but humans naturally like to be told that they are doing well, improving, or what not. It's okay to be a 'girl' in that aspect, Gladiola!!! You have worked so hard for yourself...and to get a good job from your trainer really means a lot, I'm sure!

I sometimes wish that I had a trainer...but honestly...working out by myself has been very rewarding for me. If I don't do it...then it just doesn't get done and I have only ME to answer to. I am very proud of the accomplishments that I have made....and you should be too! Don't forget how important internal encouragement is also....it can do wonders!!!

Keep lifting those weights girl, and let us know about your progress!!! You know that you will get all the motivation in the world from us freaks on here! :)
