It doesn't sound like beggers can't be choosers when hiring as far as what's out there, but I think there's something to those personality assessments that businesses use. Instead of hiring just on an instinct, have you thought about what it is about them you like and why you hired them? The best people out there for any kind of job are balanced in all 4 basic personality types and they are the best vs the worst of each type (they work to avoid the weak aspects). I can't stand it when I see a person in a position that they're not right for, but where I can see they got it simply because they had the looks and the "I" type of personality. Heard of D.I.S.C.? Check it out and think why each person sucks when they do.
+= positives/strengths - = negatives/weaknesses
D= +dominant, direct, fearless, not sensitive -pig headed, knows it all, rebel, rude
I= +fearless showman, life of the party, outgoing, smiley -flakey, too much only show and low substance, only cares about their image and not the company's, unorganized
S= +supportive, sympathetic, sacrificing -sensitive, submissive, can give in too easily
C= +accurate, correct, organized, can lead but not with fun like I, nor dynamic like D -too rigid, afraid to bend the rules, unimaginative
Party business like your's needs "high Is", but they need to be strong S if their YOUR support, and strong C to get things right
No one is a charicature and we all have at least some of each, though sometimes only in certain situations.
It helps me know how to deal with people who annoy me. I'm high S and I and high C only for rules and laws and high D with kids. My nemesis- high Ds who are mostly the weak points of D vs the strong.
Babies: are all immature and the weak points of DISC, so are criminals. They are still babies and never learned to overcome the weak negative aspects of their personalities.
Again, it's just putting a label to what you already know by instinct, but delineation I think helps to see things more clearly. So, beware of the high I or D who are weak in S and C. They will impress you upon hire then let you down when push comes to shove.
