Need help setting up a diet

Hello everyone,

I need some advice on setting up a solid diet plan. I have always just winged it in the past and have never been able to maintain my body fat on a consistent basis.

After a recent health set back for 2 months, I ready to move past my past failures and really take my health and diet much more serious...but I need some help.

Here's my current stats

33
6'2
270 pounds
BF% unknown
I do not smoke and haven't drank in 3 months and plan on continuing that.

My weight can really go up and down fast. Last year I weighed 235 and was in the best shape since HS, but I lost focus. Typical story.

I would like to get down to 225 area, I believe that is a good goal for me.

So feel free to jump in with suggestions, things to avoid and/or tools to help. I will answer all questions the best I can. Thanks in advance!

Hi,

This all may sound mean - but sometimes best advice is getting to the point. Your best advice?

Change Behavior. Losing Weight is easy.

I don't know your personality - but get serious about losing weight and stop half-assing it. Even with a medical condition - you should know to simpyl eat less calories. Not for me to yell at you - but you HAVE to remember why and how you failed so it doesn't happen again. Forget the past - and it repeats.

Anyone can make you lose weight. Most diet books/programs out there work. They make you eat less calories per day then you burn and you lose fat. Big shocker. Your grandmother can make you lose weight and she's not even ACE certified.

As someone, as you mentioned, who loses and gains and trying to lose again : this is important. If you're gonna do it - go all out. Make eating right and exercising (take it easy during cutting phase) a mainstay of your life. When you get to maint. phase, hit the gym 3x a week and love it.

Also, since you have a lot to lose - do it in phases or you'll wear yourself out. Cut for 6 weeks (example) thane take 4 weeks off (still counting calories but at maint. levels) than cut again for 6 weeks, etc. All the while lifting weights.

And when you do - do NOT wear those elastic band shorts. I wish I could outlaw them. Buy jeans/slacks that you can "feel" when you're gaining fat - so you can nip it in the bud immediately and cut.

I always demand clients when on maint. level to wear jeans that fit just right. Any fat gain, boom they notice. Then they cut (and not just go buy new bigger pants which shold also be outlawed). Then kick yourself for being sloppy with your diet that you gained weight. REMEMBER: First 1 year or so after dieting, your "set point" is stil high. Your body will try to get back to that weight.

Once you work out hard for 1 year, your body will relax and reset it's set point. Then you don't have to worry too much about fast weight gain. Any q's pm me. Good luck :)
