thank god you are on this board.

you have been wonderfull by answering all my questions so far.

thank you....but i have more

What do you do when you take on an weightlifter who is obese? or maybe even just over weight? do you see that as something your training will fix? or is it more a diet issue.
do you prescribe extra work outs....lighter drills or cardio?

what about general conditioning?

How do you develop someones front squat? is it developed along with back squats...or do you see it as a different exercise that has to be developed separately (i hope i am making sence)

how often a week do you train beginners on back and front squats? how often do you train lowerback separately (reverse + standard hyperextensions?

do you recommend strapping wrist while training front squats if full flexablitly in the wrist hasnt been achieved...and some discomfort is experienced?

thank you again your help has been invaluable
thank you for your time

as far as the weight question, i dont worry to much about it for a beginner. usually it takes care of itself over the first year or so of training. for those cases where a lifter really needs to lose weight and training alone doesnt accomplish this, he or she will simply diet. i dont believe in a lot of cardio for weightlifting.

the front sssquat will of course be strengthened by cleans, backsquats, and other things, but i do think you need to do front squats also.

we usually squat 3-4 times a week, focusing more on the back squat further away from a meet, and the front squat closer to a meet. right now some of my lifters ahve a meet in 4 weeks, they are ssquatting 3 times a week, two front squat workouts where they go all the way to max, and one back squat workout where they do several doubles at 85%. even my beginners squat hardd 3 times a week.

wneh a meet is not coming up, we train the lower back seperately with glute ham raises and reverse hypers 4 times a week. we cut this out as a meet gets closer.

for the front squat, learn to hold the bar on the fingers, not in the palm of the hand, this will help you if you arent real flexible.

ahhh thats better front squats feel much better with the correct hand position.thank you for that.

how do you feel about lou simmons stating that working over 80% on a lift will force you to go stale and your training weights regressing after 3 weeks above this percentage.

obviously you think it is untrue. how about for the "natural" (not using this as a copout) weightlifter. Will working over 80% cause problems.

do your lifters squat at such a high weight all year round?

thanks

John, I want to jump in here with some Q's too. I would be SO grateful for any little smidgen of your knowledge you'd toss my way.

In my quest for more info - I came across this enyclopedia of OL:
www.wlinfo.com
Has some great reviews from some great lifters. Your thoughts? I like to really understand things inside & out - I don't wanna go by just 'intuition' or feel - I wanna know WHY about everything!

What is your recommendation for ab workouts? My coach is saying sets of 20-25, 120 reps total, 2-3X per week, weighted. Any recommendations for exercises?

PEC WORK!!! I have been told by my coach & one teammate to, "STAY AWAY FROM ALL PEC WORK." Must let my pecs intentionally atrophy. It is possible to be strong AND flexible - so why can't I continue to increase the flexibility of my front delts & keep that pec strength????

THANKS
