Chicken and broccoli....

I have a digital scale and meausre my chicken raw. It's sometimes still watery and what not, maybe even a little icy still...so how accurate is that. Sometime I'll measure a breast and it will measure 5 oz but when i cook it....it will measure around 4. Also with broccoli...how many oz equal a 1/2 or 1 cup?
I know with broccoli i shouldn't worry so much...but humor me! I'm contest dieting and we all know how picky you can get!!!

Thanks for all your help guys!

Are you using fitday?? Cuz you can input broccoli as oz. if you want -- might be easier. It'd be hard to say how much broccoli exactly = 1 ounce cuz it would depend on whether it's chopped, etc.....I usually either measure by the ounce or the # of flowerets -- cuz I buy the bag of flowerets only from Costco.

As for the chicken, I measure mine cooked, in ounces.

I measure everything raw, with a digital scale. Might be a good idea to get one, they sell quite cheaply these days, about 20US$???

Yep, about that..... I have a digital scale too....

Thanks guys!

I guess I should have been more specific though:)Carb cycling messing with my head!!!

I'm wondering about the calorie content. Let's say I measure out 5 oz of raw chicken on my digi scale do i count 5 oz of chicken? After it is cooked it is a different weight. Which weight do i count??

Jens: I found somewhere that said 2.2 oz broccoli equaled 1/2 cup! That seems about right when i entered it in fitday.

Thanks all!!!!

Well, fitday lets you choose raw or cooked for chicken, so I'd pick whatever is easier for you to do. I like to use cooked, myself.

1 oz of boneless, cooked chicken = 46 cals & 9g of protein
1 oz of boneless, raw, without skin chicken = 29 cals & 6g of protein.

HOWEVER, due to water loss during cooking, etc.....1 oz of raw chicken will only prolly equal about 1/4 - 1/2 oz of cooked chicken.

As for the broccoli, I literally weigh it in a plastic container after heating, instead of by cups.

If you have trouble finding the content on your foods on fitday, i've noticed broccoli being one that i did, you can go to calorieking.com and it has nutritional info on a lot of things, then i add them as new items into fitday.
