I'm sure your legs felt blasted. Because you did 6 sets and overtrained your legs to hell. Unless 3 or 4 of those were warmup sets, but why would you count those?

I'm sorry dude, but there's no way you could be training squats with real intensity for 6 sets.

Try just one set of 20 rep (back) squats rest paused. Use weight that you would fail with 10 at. By 15 you should want to give up because you feel like you're going to die. The last 5 should take every ounce of your willpower.

Until you try something like this, you're just another one of hundreds I see at the gym just going through the motions. There's nothing better than getting that "what the fuck is he doing, trying to kill himself?" look from the guy in the leg press doing 1/4 reps.

Dude... I just read your entire post... I stopped at the "you can't train with intensity past 6 sets on squats" last post...

What planet are you from? How is doing front squats while touching my ASS to the ground equated to doing leg press with 1/4 reps? In case you didn't read, last week a dude complimented me on my form and about how low I get... so I don't think there are any looks regarding THAT... unless they don't understand what a front squat is.

If by just another one of the hundreds you mean one of the hundreds of warriors out of millions, then you've got my number head on... I can testify for myself and myself only... My squats have been going up pretty good since I started them for the first time in 4 years ... I'm at 245 for 5... I started at doing 185 for 5... and that was roughly a month ago? I plan on being up to near 300 in another month...

Oh, I know there are big fans of the 20 Rep squats... but guess what? It's not the only way to hit squats my brother... Low Reps, and heavy weight hit the larger muscle fibers... doing sets of 20 reps won't hit these fibers... so your legs might get bigger, but not NEARLY as big as they'll get hitting the low reps... it's science...

:)

Citrus -- have a good workout !

I have done nothing but 20 rep squats, and I have 27" thighs. I have not been training for even an entire year, and am natural.

If you want to talk science, then maybe you should consider how much you've been overtraining. If you went all-out intensity, what purpose is further squatting going to do once the muscles are fully depleted? Overtrained, pure and simple.

Doggcrapp (Dante) advocates ONE work set per muscle group. He splits his routine into 2 days, with 5 exercises in each. That means 5 total work sets per workout day.

Oh by the way, he is a ~300 lb monster. He never does low reps either. Guess he's not working those large muscle fibers!

So...basically what we have found here is this...

drum roll please...

There is more than one way to skin a cat...
There is more than one way to build big legs...
No ONE program is right or the best...

Right???

"It's not the only way to hit squats my brother... " -- A quote from Citruscide :)

You point out the obvious... I just get a little PO'd when someone questions my DRIVE and INTENSITY....

There is just a WAY to get things across to people... telling someone "you're a piece of shit" isn't the best way... and the way you said it Debaser... that's how you came across.

The fact of the matter is, my Calves are 18.5", my theighs are 27.5"... just measured them... so they are pretty cold. Hey, you have GREAT stats... I have NO doubt about it... you have 27" theighs and you've only been training for a year?? Awesome dude... I don't know wht your quads started at, or what the muscle to fat ratio is... but the fact of the matter is you have decent sized quads...

Anyway... I hope you cave be a more valuable member of this training board and learn to give advice without "debasing" other training methods with the flick of a wrist...

You never know, I might try the 20 Squat Rep Routine, but first, I want to get my weight and strength on squats up higher...
