Karma inflation... How to fix it???

Off the subject but BRR can you look at my thread here about improving EF.
Itd be a super simple download if you are running vbulletin 3.5.2 or 3.5.3

I mentioned it to George a few months back he said that sounds great he was going to look at it. And so I found the XML download and posted the link and instructions, you need simply to download the product XML file attached to this thread and install it through the product manager in your vBulletin Admin Control Panel.
Take a few minutes to upgrade this feature on EF

Honestly... I don't like the idea too much at all... It will just change the dynamic of the forums too much. The best part about EF is being able to read the interaction between members and even being able to add your .02.... If people could juts talk privately over a talking line then what would be the fun in that?

I just don't think it would be as fun and this place would stop being what it is.

I think the right way to implement it would be...


1- Making it avalible only at certain times of the day. Members would be able to use the system for an hour or two out of the day and we would still have people posting the rest of the time.
2- Maybe using it to provide support.

Ok, I still think you should hit the reset button and make everyone equal with a brand new system.
People making millions of karma during a period where its been flawed ruins the karma system.
Lets make the people equal, call it a brief period of karmic Marxism.

Then I think that you should limit the k hits available to 15 per day and for every crown you get, you get one less k hit per day.

So no crowns = 15 daily hits

One crown = 14 daily hits

two crowns = 13

three crowns = 12

And for those with 12 crowns they get only 3 karma hits per day. That means the heavy hitters cant hit each other and inflate their k totals.

THe smaller members with more hits can k whore a bit to try and catch up, it would allow lower k totals to build more and slow the high hitters from creating enormous amounts of karma into the system with only three or four hits available at the higher end

Itd have to be some graduated system of karma hit limitation based on how much k they have and over time the system would begin to right itself.

For instance, people with 12 crowns that hit for 3,000 per hit, instead of creating 45,000 k hits per day, will then only create 9000. While someone with 300 k hits and one crown can hit fifteen times and create 4200 k hits.

THe advantage still goes to the guy with 12 stars creating twice as much karma per day to spread

You could do that now, so someone makes 15 alters and hits themselves with a grey hit.

I think Soklu nailed it earlier. Karma is supposed to be fun, a game. Nothing more. Unfortunately, a lot of people take karma VERY seriously.

No matter what the decision is, someone will be upset. Someone will cry publicly. Someone will write their "I'm leaving EF" thread. (and George can cut-and-paste his new speech.) It's always the same.

I dont care, Hammy and Soklu are great peeps, nothing personal at all, Im thinking what's best for the board. I like that you can send messages to peeps but I also think that karma currency would be ALOT more fun especially if we can play poker.

I think this round of karma games should come to an end. Perk was the first winner.
Hammy was the second winner by a landslide.

Lets start everyone out at 100,000 karma and in a year's time give out a few ipods to whomever is in the lead at that time.
