Just met this gorgeous girl .....

.... yeah, she's gorgeous (half Italian, half Puerto Rican ... damn good combo). One of the first things she said to me was "Hey, you and I should make babies because I'm pretty cute, and you're pretty cute, and we would have some pretty cute kids" .... She's really nice and I am extremely attracted to her plus she has told me that she is attracted to me ... the only problem is that she is bi-polar (I can never meet a normal girl) but she is on medication. Is this something that I should really worry about or do you think the meds will make for a normal relationship?

Obviously I'll be able to deal with her 'ups' but I'm a bit worried about her 'downs' .... I need some help here.

Also, though I'm not sure if it affects anything ... she's 23 and I'm 20.

Thanks,

®ª†

Actually, no .... I was talking to my friend (she's my friend's cousin) and he said that her relationships usually last a while (averaging about a year each) ... this has me thinking that she may have some dependancy issues and I'm not sure if I'm ready for that kind of relationship.

bi-polars are still people, take some time and try to understand her condition.

remember she is not her illness.

It's not so much her disorder that I'm worried about .... it's dependancy issues, depression, or even possibly suicide (that's a horrible extreme, but it's a possibility).

I'm just worried that if I do go out with her, she'll become dependant on the relationship and if things don't work out, she'll become horribly depressed and do something damaging to herself.

I really like her ... she's gorgeous, she's smart, she's fun, and we connected on several levels. I'm confident [now] that her bi-polar disorder will be the least of my worries. I just like to know what I'm getting into. I never do anything without a little bit of research first ... it's ma style. :)

hey you know what they say, if you don't gamble big......:)

here's the DSM IV criteria:

A pervasive pattern of instability of interpersonal relationships, self-image, and affects, and
marked impulsivity beginning by early adulthood and present in a variety of contexts, as indicated
by five (or more) of the following:

1. frantic efforts to avoid real or imagined abandonment. Note: Do not include suicidal or
self-mutilating behavior covered in Criterion 5.

2. a pattern of unstable and intense interpersonal relationships characterized by alternating
between extremes of idealization and devaluation

3. identity disturbance: markedly and persistently unstable self-image or sense of self

4. impulsivity in at least two areas that are potentially self-damaging (e.g., spending, sex,
substance abuse, reckless driving, binge eating). Note: Do not include suicidal or self-mutilating
behavior covered in Criterion 5.

5. recurrent suicidal behavior, gestures, or threats, or self-mutilating behavior

6. affective instability due to a marked reactivity of mood (e.g., intense episodic dysphoria,
irritability, or anxiety usually lasting a few hours and only rarely more than a few days)

7. chronic feelings of emptiness

8. inappropriate, intense anger or difficulty controlling anger (e.g., frequent displays of temper,
constant anger, recurrent physical fights)

9. transient, stress-related paranoid ideation or severe dissociative symptoms

i.e THUS whatever she does, she does to herself. due to the fact 'no man is an island' how can you expect not to affect her, whether positively or negatively.

life is a big risk. but a worthwhile one imho. :) hth

also i forgot to say, who can deny not fitting more than one or two of the above criteria ......we are all the same, we are all human you know.

My brother once gave me some advise I will pass on to you, "if you like a girl alot fuck her. if you dont like her fuck her, either way your getting it done"

damn dont piss her off the itilian/rican thing can make for a hell of an attitude

My friend (her cousin), was telling me about her ... she fits three of the criteria listed above --- 1, 4, and 8.
