Is this true about tuna?

A friend of mine was telling me that the mercury levels in fish especially tuna is really high. I should not eat tuna more than once ever 6 weeks. I eat tons of tuna like at least a can a day. Has anyone else heard of this. I read for pregant woman etc... But I am not planing on having kids anytime soon!
 
I read an article that canned tuna should only be eaten 1x per week. Large bodied fish (fresh tuna, shark, halibut, etc) should be avoided as much as possible due to high mercury content. Shrimp is ok as is salmon. If I can find the article I'll post more info. The article was in a recent issue of Health magazine. Maybe check their website....
 
Yea, fish is becoming quickly a thing of the past.. If you can put a safe level on a substance like Mercury, be my guess.. the fact of the matter those substances are bio-accumulated, they stick with you and accumulate, that's not good.. I try and stay away from all fish.. If you want your Omegas, buy the oils. It's sad that it's come to this, but the fish industry is probably putting alot of money to keep people eating it..
 
The article says that the mercury levels stay in your body for 60 days & get excreted thru your hair & fingernails. The study reported people having confusion, memory loss, etc & they call it "fish fog." They did stress salmon was ok.
 
Yeah, yeah. Bodybuilders have been eating tuna in massive amounts for decades, and there have been very few cases of mercury poisoning. It's almost the same thing as with eggs and salmonella.
 
It was Fresh tuna that they stated has the most mercury, not the canned. So the people studied who had high levels of mercury ate a lot of tuna steaks. The recommendation to only eat 1 can of tuna a week was just precautionary.
 
Eating canned tuna has taken my murcury levels up to 16 somethings/something, where 0-9.9 is healthy. I've been eating about a can a day for three months. I'd get my levels checked if I were you.
 
After my friend told me I did some reaserch and just stopped eating tuna basically. The majour problem is with most farmed fish even salmon. If it is wild fish levels seem to be a lot lower from what I read.
