I am NEVER doing this exercise again...

haha most of them are fat, kazmaier, svend karlsen, juoko ahola, whit baskin these guys are fat? please, most strongmen arent fat and if they choose to be it is only because of their diet choices, the ones that watch their diets example svend karlsen are cut as shit. And with regards to u flaming me, u said total upper body strength, in fact many lifts regard weighted dips as the upper body squat, dont worry i will post these for u in a lil bit. And yes u can get a big chest with incline presses, and look at every old time olympic lifter or strongman, they hardly every did bench if they did it at all, their main focus was on overhead lifting and they had some of the biggest chests i have ever seen for example serge redding. I did not flame u at all in my post, nor did i insult u in any way, i merely stated that i differed from ur opinion and that too many people put too much emphasis on bench press. There are so many other lifts that are better. And on the contrary to what u think many strongmen are pure muscle, u go up to kazmaiers face or aholas and tell them that they are fat, on the contrary they are 330 pounds and 280 pounds respectively of solid muscle. No bb even comes close to kaz's pic at 330 at 7 percent bf. It is obvious thru ur ignorance of my post that you have no concept of real strongman training, i agree flat bench is important for building a huge chest, but it is not the King. Have a nice day

"deathonthefield oh and also, since u r a bb u do kno that if u lean forward when doing dips that it also works the chest"

dips have a higher rating on the EMG for chest too, don't they??

Let's please try and stick to the topic here guys...

Read my initial post...I did dips (elbows out and wide grip) for my chest for a long time.

Most strongmen never do flat work...most of our competitions are all overhead movements.

Svend is an IFBB pro bodybuilder, then powerlifter, now World's Strongest Man. He earns the ability to wear the shirt that says "FREAK" across it..lol

I've sworn off dbell flyes..several times...lol

I would never do pec dec flies again. I used to do these a long time ago before I got into powerlifting. Just the starting position with the arms and shoulders starting so far back makes me cringe.

Also behind the back dips. I did like 4 sets altogether in my whole life before I found out that they are shoulder injury producers, thank goodness I didnt get into that trap. I see guys in a commercial gym do these sometimes and I feel like I should go tell them to stop but I dont, perhaps I should.

If I was a powerlfiter/strong man - there are scores of ecercises I would not do:

Behind-the neck press
flyes
pec -dec where you are locking into a range of motion

etc...

Some strongman competitors actually do flyes...maybe to help squeeze the atlas stone when picking them up. I still think that the only way to be good at the stones...is to do them...a lot.

....interesting

I've cut out Behind the neck presses for a couple of years now. Shame, cause they really used to be my bread and butter for size and strenght in my shoulders.

I was doing 215 seated (and i remember the exact pondage and rep to this day cause i'm still paying for this screwup) and on the 6th rep as i was lowering the bar back down the bar drifted backwards. Didnt move that far at all but enough to screw up my rotator but good.

Months off and alot of rotator work and i'm good to go again though. But now theres no way in hell i'm risking that exercise again. Just took a momentary lack of concentration and BAM!

I also kinda avoid flyes. Talk about adding recovery time to your chest! Takes me an extra week to fully recover from them!
