Help I was an eating machine

You need to schedule in cheat meals every two weeks, and maybe even a decadent tasting but healthy treat every so often (think Chobani yogurt with/or one of those packs of 100 calorie cookies or something). If you keep things too restricted you're not doing your diet any good, anyway. You need to throw in an occasional, reasonable cheat to keep your metabolism perking along.

And believe me, I totally, totally understand the one is too many/1,000 is never enough ... boy do I ever. Becoming too obsessive about control is a razor edge, too though.

Remember something, girl, it's only food. You're smarter than the food. You're in control of it. Imagine food is fuel, your body is the car. Eating refined sugar is roughly the equivalent of using nitrous in a car. A brief, virtually uncontrollable blast.

Thank you for that-I can get into a mindset of panic at that spiral into losing control...MUST NOT PANIC lol

Ok, this is kind of bothering me:
Before I got into eating really healthy I never really had any issues with desserts or carbs, could kind of take them or leave them and never ate to excess...
But I've noticed something since I have been avoiding sugar/refined carbs- if I don't eat them at all I have no desire whatsoever to have any.
However, if i have even one cookie/cracker/piece of bread/dessert, i get a strong, unavoidable urge to binge on them. Like gross amounts that I would never have eaten prior to cleaning up my diet.
Prior to last weekend this just meant like eating a whole sleeve of cookies, not just one-ha ha.
Last weekend I went to a BBQ and had some chips and a hamburger on a white bun. I then proceeded to have a lot of chips, another hamburger, two hotdogs, a cup of potato salad, two ice cream cones, and two big pieces of ice cream cake. I did not want to eat all that but I lost any control over impulse control and gorged myself which is NOT NORMAL for me. I ate so much I could feel my stomach pressing on my ribs, it hurt a lot.
WTF?? I have never had this problem before, and I am not used to having such strong food cravings. I was not drinking alcohol, because I don't drink. When I did I had the same problem though, I would have one and almost always binge drink to excess.
I'm a little worried my stomach will burst if that happens again. I just have to avoid these foods like the plague, which bums me out because i would like to have some control over this and just on occasion have a small treat.

You could always just see one small treat = 2 mins of sprinting. 1 or 2 treat is fine. But after 5 treats/10 mins of sprinting your ready to puke. See it as cal in vs how much work it take to burn that same amount of cals.

That is what works for me as I hate sprinting.

OK so just a quick update to say that I relaxed a bit on the eating regimen...I was getting way too much into the weighing and restricting and obsession. I was freaking out over whether I had 20 or 30 grams of oatmeal in the morning. Or if I had a banana that I had to stop eating carbs for the rest of the day.
So now I just measure out just under half a cup and think of it as part of a good breakfast lol.
I feel more satisfied knowing I am not freaking out over fruit for pete's sake.

Atta girl!!! :D

Things are different if you're trying to get into extremely low BF percentages for the sake of competition, but when your goal is to look and feel good long term/real life? Think sustainability.

It's far too easy to get OCD with food when you've already got those tendencies in other departments.

Thanks :rose:
Yeah I kinda got caught up in the details. I doubt that I will ever compete. My husband (!!) is on the road to a competition, and I think I would rather support him than pursue that. It's his dream, not mine.
I just like aiming for a peak physical state, just to challenge myself.

What show is your husband doing?

I have just started getting ready for the Ottawa show in November.

What QT said.

Nobody is perfect, if you're too restrictive with yourself you will find yourself craving foods, and those cravings will become monkeys on your back. Be sure that you've got a cheat scheduled into your diet plan, it keeps your metabolism up and makes being disciplined the rest of the time a little easier.

i agree MM. its natural to want what u cant have. so you tell yourself no more of this or only very little of this and that, and some people go in a sort of panic and they will constantly think about the cookies that they cant have and crave them more than ever. Then you "treat" yourself and have a cookies. enjoy it and you go into "panic" mode again because you tell yourself you cant have anymore. cravings are stronger than ever at this moment. and because of the "lack" mind set we end up binging on those cookies/breads that we're supposed to give up.

it almost adds value to that food. less supply(so you tell your brain)=more demand
