Hi there! Calling all healthy cooking "pro's"...
Wanted some tips on healthy cooking...
ie - chicken, fish, brown rice etc... or what you use - splenda, PAM cooking spray etc...

I want to cook more healthy meals - just need some guidance... Thanks!

I use all brands of cooking spray -- whatever I find cheaper, olive oil (for healthy fats), splenda in coffee, etc

SF, FF choc pudding & Jello help with sugar cravings

I use a steamer for brown rice cuz it's so hard to cook otherwise, but I don't eat a lot of rice or pasta.

Also check out the "muscle food" board cuz there is all kinds of recipes there......Anything specific you are looking for???

Hi MissJanet -

There are some great recipes on the Muscle Food board - check it out. Here are some other tips for you...

Think fresh - I buy tons of fresh veges and make salads with almost every dinner. Use spinch and other leafy, dark greens and add peppers, onion, chopped broccoli, whatever. Sometimes I'll add chopped walnuts and fat free cheese to my salads - fat free feta is great!!

Use lots of herbs & spices in your cooking. When you take out fat, you need to add something for flavor. Basil, oregano, cilantro, flat-leaf parsley, rosemary, chervil & thyme are some of my favorites. If you have a garden, try growing some of your own herbs. I grow parsley, thyme and rosemary in my kitchen - they are super easy to take care of! Spices can add a lot of cariety to chicken breasts and fish filets.

Pork tenderloin is an awesome source of lean protein. It can be stuffed with almost anything and it's super low in fat.

Fish is a super healthy dinner choice that can be very easy to make. I buy tilapia filets from Trader Joe's and they are awesome!! I made some last night for dinner seasoned with lemon and cracked peppercorn. They were great!! Tuna Steaks are also great sources of protein and they are so easy to make. Just season with salt & pepper and sear them in a pan until they are medium rare. I slice mine and top my salads with it...

I love to cook, so if you're looking for any great recipes, let me know. I'll be happy to send some your way!

Hi MissJanet,

I throw some chicken breasts in the crockpot and add enough water to barely cover. Then turn it on low before I go to bed. Then when I wake up in the morning, it's ready to take to work for my lunch (and the house smells yummy!). You can also add different spices.

In the evening, when I'm sitting around the house relaxing, I put 4 or 5 sweet potatoes in the oven and let them cook for about an hour and a half on 350. You don't have to wrap them in foil, just put a cookie sheet lined with foil on the rack below to catch the drips and then you can just throw it away.

This way I always have healthy food to grab!
