Has anyone tried a routine like this?

Here's a new routine I just started. Has anyone tried a 3 on, 3 off type routine?

day 1: chest + shoulders + tri's
bench 4 sets
inc. bench 3 sets
military press 4 sets
dips 4 sets

day 2: legs
squats 4 sets
sldeads 4 sets
lunges 3 sets
calves 4 sets

day 3: back + traps + bi's
pull ups 4 sets
bb row 3 sets
shrugs 4 sets
bb curl 4 sets

day 4: rest
day 5: rest
day 6: rest
day 7: repeat

each excercise is performed with 110% effort and intensity. all are reverse pyramids in the 6-8 reps range. I figure by taking a full 3 days off, my body will be fully recovered for another round of 3 day thrashing. Comments?

Hey bro, I mean that type of routine isn't for me.i personaly don't like taking more than 2 days off from the gym unless it's vacation or some shit cause I tend to get lazy. Also I find I get better results from one-two bodyparts at the most on any given day.Different tthings work for different people though. So keep me updated In a few weeks I'm curious to see how it works out.

............

why does it matter if I go to failure or not? what constitutes going to failure?

Any particular reason you aren't doing that in a Day 1 - on, Day 2 - off, Day 3 - on, Day 4 - off, Day 5 on, Day 6 and 7 - off? That's a very popular and effective split.

I should have been more specific. If you go to failure you are pushing your CNS much much harder than it should be (IMO), and it takes much longer to recover. Failure is okay for low volume routines, but this isn't one.

I would advice stopping one or two reps shy of failure. Intensity can be high without failure.

thanks

thanks for the imput I appreciate it. the reason I'm not going with the traditional split is because I like to mix it up every now and then and try something new. The reason I decided to take 3 full days off is because I want to see if the increased rest period will give my body the extra time it needs to completly recover. When I first started lifting I used a 4 on, 3 off split that worked very well. I remember that after the 3 days off I was completely fresh and ready for my next set of work outs. I want to see if this will still be the case with this routine.

This is my humble opinion based on my experience. Three days rest is good but three days of intense workouts is too much. If it was me I would swap days 2 and 3 and take that 7th days and add a day of rest between 2 and 3. But you have to find what works for you, my rotation is about 9 days.
