can I replace the bench press altogether due to the aggravation on my rc? ive effectively been using hammer grip and the difference is like day and night. but can i get the same chest involvement if i were to keep elbows about 45 degrees and twist my arms, performing standard neutral grip at top?

would that work ?

I would say yes. The standard flat bench press is usually the number one exercise responsible for shoulder and/or pec tears.

Just switch it up. Work the angles man. Do your inclines, declines, flys. You can try reverse grip. There are alot of exercises at your disposal.

I like the neutral grip press, I do them myself sometimes. IF thats all you can do, than do it. Just make sure to stay safe and switch things up so you keep your chest guessing and growing.

If you just want to build some muscle but dont want to be strong than do all machines. But for strength, the machines don't match up to free weights. The machine moves in a controlled rom and therefore decrease the chance of injury. So for someone with prior injuries who wants to work on general fitness this is a good option.

i do starting strength, i have no interest in doing machines.. as far as that goes hammer db bp will be my primarily lift as far as chest goes

I tore my left pec last year when I was benching 495 lbs...I did a clean rep then two of the plates fell off from one side and the whole thing flipped over and crashed on my chest...I thought the pain alone was going to kill me...

damn!!!!! That must of been some scary SH**!!!!!

glad your alright tho man. You can seriously f yourself up when stuff like that happens, exspecially when your pushing 500.

There is some nasty vids on youtube of similar things happening. Alot with thumbless grip. I can barely watch em half the time.

Terrible thing to see......

This is why I always use heavy duty collars. So have you recovered fully and hit a new pr?

I've made gains on everything, but I can't train my chest anymore...I mean I can bounce a plate on there but that's about it, everything else hurts too much
