MY DIET F-ING SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What amazes me is that I can help anyone and everyone establish a diet that works, but when it comes to me, I f-ing lose it! What am I talking about? Well, I'm about 6-7%bf at the present time. I've told myself I am going to add about 15-20lbs over the next year by EATING! Stop being so f-ing anal about my condition and abs, and EAT! I do cardio every day, I eat a lot of protein, but my fats and carbs are nilch....well, close to it. I have a huge bowl of oats first thing, but no other starch carbs all day. Everything is protein, veggies, or low carb (skim, bars, powder, cottage cheese, eggs, etc.) I used to have a yam for lunch, but nixed that for those damn low carb totillas, which I love. Oh, I do have a piece of flax bread in my 2nd meal and a tb of ANPB, but that's the extent of it..........sorry....just had to let this go......first it was July 1 I'll start, than August 1, now, it's, when the weather breaks and gets cooler.......f-me!

LEPTIN... try some nicorrette gum :D

Well, I give you props for your severe dedication to your diet, and I can't much say anything since I'm the same way. I keep putting it off. I did okay when I started HST, but after that, I haven't been able to get moving again on any solid diet scheme. It's such a pain, especially the money and preparation of food. I wanna just give up sometimes.

You could eat big and minimize fat gains, and probably get somewhat bigger without gaining any, but to break past a certain point you'll need to gain some fat.

I heard it's best to bulk with less bodyfat though. Less bodyfat gains in the end that way. So, Jkurz, you're set.

You can still have the same diet bro and gain weight.

How long are your cardio sets and what exactly do they consist of? Depends on what you are doing and what your daily calorie input is. I would probably just limit my cardio to every other day, or 20-30 min 5 days a week. At 6-7%bf and as strict as your diet is your not going to jeopardize your bf% by just limiting your cardio. Sounds like your not in a hurry to put on the pounds, but it sounds like your not losing any pounds either, so you must be pretty content on what you look like now. It sounds like your metabolism is steady at your current diet, so diffenately less cardio and a slight increase in your caloric diet(maybe an extra meal would help). You could still stay on your strict diet and your only looking to gain 20lbs max within a year, thats only 1.6lbs a month.

whats a sample day diet for you Jkurz? What kind of #s are you taking in? Post something and we can try and fatten you up a little ;)

I also forgot what your stats are....

See the diet in my signature.

Easy to get fat calories by taking the flax seed oil straight.

Easy to get carbs by putting dextrose in your cardio and lifting PWO shake.

Easy to get carbs by eating raw oats. I've taken to throwing about 5g of dextrose into the 75 gram serving I eat. You could also use Splenda.

Dextrose is a horrid idea.....PW ONLY.......wouldn't consider that additional carbs by any means....it's an insulin shuttle, tis all.....

I am sure if you sit and think on it long enough you will be fine Jkurz. Especially since it seems you will have most of the information anyone could provide you anyways. How much carbs did you say you were taking in a day and when? Thats my only question.

My first meal is a cup of steel cut, 2nd meal is 2 pieces of flax bread and my PW shake has glucose.....every other meal (4) has only fiberous veggies, or other veggies (peppers, shrooms, etc.) as the carb source....I bet my carb intake, counting the little skim I drink and the cottage cheese is about 150-200g a day.......

How many cals you take in in a day Jkurz? Do you work %s of that to come up with your low carbness or that just a personal diet thing?

Never counted a calorie in my life.....I've had the same staple, for so long, that I know. I've slowly been adding foods to change it up, bread, low carb bar....skim......to try and add some weight....

your going to have to add carbs to your diet bro to put the lbs on, using the right carbs, such as oats, brown rice, potatoes, wheat, etc, you can up your carbs by even 200g per day and not notice much of a BF increase.

Definately, simple carbs are a must have.

I love pasta so I've also been eating the whole wheat stuff, it took me a bit to get used to 'em but their ok now.

Hey Machine, you ever try any of the organic foods? We have a specialty health food store here and I've been thinking of going on this diet for awhile now.

To honest with you I mainly stick to wheat derivatives (crackers and bread), oats, and potatoes. I try to stay away from all other forms of carbs. I use pasta as a cheat meal once per week.

lol. I can see a 12pack but it isnt exactly the right one.

Cleaning up my diet would be by far the best thing for me to do. However, doing it is a real bitch. When i want to eat, i do, i dont give a shit how good or bad it is for me. With the way my schedule has been lately, things havent been where they should be. Plus, if my numbers start dropping in the gym, then the diet will be over as fast as it started. Lastly, if i hit cardio like i should it would probably help. However, after a couple of nights hitting the tread mill, the knees and right foot are screaming at me and then i cant sleep at night. As you can see it is a catch 22.

I hear you, cwick. I get real pissed when my strength starts to drop. Over the years, I've abandoned a many cutting cycles because the strength lowered in all lifts. But this year, I found a better way to do it.

1. Train in the PM
2. Don't lift heavy every single session, with the lack of cals, you'll burn out. I've found a 2-week light (10-12 reps to failure) / 1-week heavy (3-6 reps to failure) works best
3. Eat more on training days than on rest days. On rest days, keep the protein high, but drop everything else as low as possible.

I agree, but that's what makes us all different...nothing wrong with that....My ultimate goal is to be 230 and sub 8% bf....sure it will take some time, but that's why it's a goal.....I could care less if I'm benching 225 or 500, just want to be strong and asthetically pleasing.......My problem is I'm TOO concerned with diet right now...I need to put on 20-30lbs over the next 18 months and then worry about cutting down.....It's just, once you have the diamond abs, you REALL hate to see them fade....very depressing.....

1. always train in the afternoon or early evening.
2. dont always lift heavy, but to a certain degree i have too otherwise i wont be pushing myself enough. I have some incredible stamina in the gym, plus it takes me forever to warm up.
3. that's usually how i do it.
4. PROBLEM: probably eat too much bread (whole grain only) and very very very few veggies, NOTHING GREEN.

For as much cardio you do and still working the abs, my guess is that you could still add a ton of lean muscle mass. Maybe slow up the veggies a little and hit some more good carbs (maybe even bring the yams back, YUCK).

TRUST ME - are you eating a loaf of bread a day??? If so, it's prob. too much.....bread is NOT the devil and either are carbs.........timing is critical and everything in moderation.......

NO not at all.

At most 4 slices of bread a day. e.g. i had a sinlge egg on a piece of toast this morning and will probably have a piece of bread and butter with my dinner.

90% of the time everything is in moderation, except my 1% milk, not to much of one thing. Albeit i had a great steak the other night.

I'm an acct mgr/sales rep for pepsi, about two years ago I had been so stressed from work and started getting sick more frequently and had a huge drop in weight(which might have been from being sick). My brother had also passed away a few months before this.

I went to the doc because I had lost near 20lbs and after several months it had not come back. My doc told me that it was due to stress, and I needed to manage it better and he provided some classes for me to help me with my brother passing away(which I never took).

Less than a month later my boss lightened up my work load, and I had more time to deal with personal issues. Since those two years I have gone from 125lbs to 205lbs(on my heavy days), (I know some are going to ask bf%, at 14%), so I really think it had to do with work related stress, and not managing any personal issues which also played a stressful role in my life.

If need be PM me and I'll give ya my docs info.

stress = cortisol = muscle wasting

Studies now show that the body does 2 things when dealing with stress.

First is producing adrenalin, the 2nd being cortisol. I think its safe to say that since I have always been skinny in the past that I doubt my body was doing the 2nd, and more of the first. So, maybe it has to do with the individual. They also say that smoking causes cortisol levels to increase, but so many smokers say that by smoking it lowers their appetite.

IMO, not enough studies have been done to really determine the effects of cortisol. I also believe that everyone deals with stress differently, some gain weight(gain in cortisol), and some lose weight(gain of adrenalin).
