Full squats too fast?

yesterday i was doing squats. Like most of you i go as low as possible.

I have been doing full squats for about 2.5 months but people have just now noticed for god knows why. I got allot of shocked looks from just about everyone who have probably never seen a real squat before, and as you can probably guess the head football coach was quick to explain why it was not a good idea. I explained how many power-lifters and expecaly Olympic lifters do squats in the way i do with no problems.

He still seems to think that it is unnecessary and dangerous to go so low but he did say one thing that makes since, even though it is ok to explode with parallel squats you should keep the reps slow and controlled with deep squats because that would jerk the tendons around allot more.

Has anyone heard this or is it better to explode anyway?

regardless i will never go back to pussy ass parallel or 90 degree angle squats. Ever sense i started the deep squats i have felt a HUGE difference in how i feel and how easy it is to move around, i have always been somewhat agile but the full squats make a unbelievable difference, and i feel absolutely no pain in my knees.

their is no reason for an athlete to go to a rock bottom squat. A parallel or just below parallel squat is as good if not better. You do however need to control the eccentric , down, motion of the squat and not bounce out of the bottom. THis your coach is right about. a fast ecentric phase will really stretch and put a lot more stress on the ligaments and tendons than if it is a controled motion. However, with a controled ecentric phase their is nothing wrong with exploding out of the bottom. There is a big difference between expoding out of the bottom and bouncing out of the bottom. But getting parallel is Key.

To develop the to the fullest extent you have to go through a full squat. Do 90 degree squats for 90 degrees of YOUR legs. I will get the other 10 degrees by going past parallel. :)

going past parallel shifts the weight to your hips, and off of your knees, and stopping at parallel puts more stress on your knees, because you are stopping at your knees' weakest point

Yes, it is always good to train a muscle in it's full ROM.
