Concern of mine is Freezing up on Stage. Even thinking about it gets my pulse going.

PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE.....

I was in a show where I was basically striped naked except for a pair of WHITE boxers on stage....the first time at rehearals, the zipper on the pants got stuck

LOL

I wished the stage would open up and swallow me whole

it got better and better with run-thrus though

Control the mind by turning the contest over and over

Could be anything:

diet- * got this, and am finally getting usual to the recent changes*

training - *this is going pretty well, diet is restricted and I feel like I'm still getting stronger*

cardio - *finally got my ass used to waking up early to get this done, now I actually like being up this early*

suits * got these covered just waiting to receive my suit, and get my outfits this weekend :) *

shoes * got them, and I'm practicing, practicing and practicing some more*

makeup * going to take care of this shortly, just want to have all my outfits first*

I'm nervous about freezing up on stage like Frisky and not remembering to smile.

Hi, i'm a bit of a lurker here ;-P haven't posted much yet.

For suits, i usually dont' get fitted until about 3 weeks out. Although i have my fabric picked out long before... LOL my physique changes way too much to get it done any sooner. Although i have a local girl who does many contest suits and is very fast with a good eye. I'm in fitness, not figure, so i don't have a clue about those one-pieces...

For contest prep, i like shadow's "practice practice practice" advice. Leave nothing un-prepared if you can, even your smiling, your walking, your little wave thingy. I also use many visualization techniques during contest prep, seems to work well for me.

I'm sick right now, and 3.5 weeks out. So i'm having a major panick attack....

Practice your quarter turns in front of other people. Keep practicing. Remember to smile. Don't do it all in front of a mirror because when you are on stage the orientation that you see is different from the reflection that you see in the mirror. Video tape it & check it. Keep doing it. Practice practice practice.

Get the names of the judges or someone you can talk to from your specific show from your local NPC organization who can give you seom feed back about the specific posing requirements or things they might call out that, e.g. "ARms to your sides ladies". I sat there at the last show I went to and those people who had learned poses that werent' exactly what they were looking for were flustered when they were told to adjust the pose.

By the time you get on stage, you are really just standing in front of more people than you are used to, but no one is seeing you sweat. And just keep in mind why you are there -- to SHOW people what you've accomplished and not to be scrutinized & criticized. This is the END of your training & diet & you get to wear pretty outfits, be ridiculously tanned & made up, wear big heels that would normally just earn you some money on the street, and then you get to do an obscene dessert binge as soon as you are off stage. So for god's sake, smile!

the 1/4 turns will be enhanced by taping the exact measurements of the stage on a floor somewhere

I don't know if will help anyone but I did this when I figure skated (I was the one that would actually get the dry heaves from nerves and then go out and compete).

Anyway - find a quite place and lay down and close your eyes.
Imagine your body relaxing - concentrate and from your toes up through to your head feel yourself relax - you might feel like you're floating or sinking.

Then when you're in that happy place - imagine getting on stage, see the crowd, judges and do your routine in your head. Imagine it as you are doing it and looking out and do it again as someone else watching you.

Do this daily.

Relaxation is the KEY to any type of physical performance....

start with the muscles around the nose and face......moveto forehaed and down the neck and shoulders

I practice every morning at the gym walking around and posing in my heels. In my head I pretend on stage. I even smile and wave. And I make my poor boyfriend sit through 20 minutes of me doing this with my sweat pants and tank top folded up. But when someone peeks in the window I usually freeze up and stop what I'm doing, it's getting better with practice, today there was a guy in there skipping and I practiced while he was in there ;)
