finally tried box squats

goddamn freaking damnit. I tried box squats for the first time, and I could not for the life of me go past a 155! I can normally squat 275 for like 8 reps, but I guess the truth comes out. when I hit the the stool (closest thing at my gym to make my legs parallel), I could barely get up. it was an awesome feeling, but I didn't have the torque to push it up. that night I was concentrating on form rather than going heavy, and I am confident of my form. I started out with 135, then added a dime on each side and I was having trouble going all the way down, thinking I would not go back up. my stance was aggressively wide with toes pointed out, but I guess the strength wasn't there. it was a first, and I look forward to my next meeting at the sqaut rack. just wanted to let this out...

that's how it is when you first try them, but you will increase so don't sweat it.you felt them in your hams too, huh??????;)

DUDE!!! I was wondering why I couldn't walk. my hams are freaking TOAST!! I thought it was from doing s/l deads, which I normally do. I guess not. thanks for letting me further understand my soreness. and yes, I won't back down, like tom petty says...

I found doing boxs squats really showed me where i was lacking strength.

you put your ego last and the iron and your body first......not many people do that...im proud.

I've been trying them on a stool, but it wasn't low enough.

Now I'm using a milk carton with 2x4's on end underneath it.
I'll have to measure the height, but it's below parallel.
Awesome feeling!

make sure you dont bounce bro. I got hurt big time doing that with no guidance. The movement is to sit down and back with it and then kind of rock forward with it a bit and stand up. Check out elitefts.com for more details...the power will come!
