Exercise question

I have seen pictures of an exercise where the lifter backs up to
a seated lat pull machine and grabs the handle between the
legs. What are the mechanics of this exercise? After the handle
is grabbed, does the lifter walk out? What is the correct back
position? Does the exercise work the hams and gluts?

It looks like this exercise may be good for squat improvement.

Any information would be much appreciated?

It's called a pull-through. Yes, you step away from the low pulley so that when the hands and cable travel between the legs your posterior chain (hams, hips, glutes and lower back) gets a good stretch. Stand all the way up on the concentric portion of the movement and flex the rear chain hard. If you do them with straight legs then you tend to work your lower back and if you do them with a bent knee then you tend to work your hams, hips & glutes. Yes, this exercise will help your squat and dead. You must use heavy weight to tax these muscle groups sufficiently.

Prometheus and Screwball, thanks for the info.

Tried the pulls yesterday. The exercise was tough. Had trouble
maintaining balance and footing. Will keep doing them and with
time, hopefully, I will get better at them.

you'll get it man.the first time i did them i kept falling backwards.start light and work your way up.make sure you get a good stretch at the bottom.......you'll love em'....:D
