energy drink prior to lifting?

Carbs are a better fuel source for lifting. I would save the fat burning concerns for cardio sessions.

I drink some source of caffiene, 25mg ephedra, and I sip a carbo drink throughout my lift.

Yeah, no doubt about carbs being a better fuel...but as a "side effect" fat is also burned...which won't happen if you have an insulin spike. I guess if you're bulking and you don't care about how fat you may get, go for the carb drink before and during. Definitely drink carbs for endurance events.
 
not a long term solution...all that caffeine will help in fat loss(but you will build a tolerance in a way)...but caffeine decreases protein synthesis, so it will not help in building muscle
