Different types of protein shakes

Man your both confusing me now :)

The way ive read it is that im to have a PWO shake of whey and dextrose.

What is the best way to have a shake say around 9-10pm, and for it to the most benefit to me?

Also what on earth is Catabolism? sounds damn painful!!!

Cheers

A shake before bed nned to be a slower digesting protein OR whey with fat added.

Again - I "know" what the studies show.....in a cutting environment - I think malto vs. other sugars is a moot point.....

"catabolism
In biology, the destructive part of metabolism where living tissue is changed into energy and waste products.

It is the opposite of anabolism. It occurs continuously in the body, but is accelerated during many disease processes, such as fever, and in starvation."

IE -- at night while asleep....with muscle being the living tissue..... You don't feel it...you're asleep :lmao:

But still hurts to know your body is gnawing at your gym-work... damn my body, stop eating yourself!!!

So if i made a 500ml shake up with my whey protein mix and skimmed milk this would work?

The milk would provide the carbs for it to absorb slowly?

If so this could sort out any worries i had as a i love milk!

let me know

Paul

Shake consisting of skim or regular milk throughout the day will be ok as it will be absorbed slowly. For pwo, it is my opinion that its not the best time to take milk with the shake. Two reason: lactose isnt the best sugar to replenish muscle gycogen, but it still will give you an insulin spike. Why not go with the best simple sugar- that being dextrose, to suffice your pwo needs. Second reason: Casean, milk protein, is a slow digesting protein, not ideal for pwo, as you want a fast absorbing protein source. Whey being the fastest. Mixing a fast digesting protein with a slow digesting protein will slow the absorbtion rate. Why do this, when you know whey/water/dex is the fastest digesting combo.
Like others have said if in fact you cant see a difference either way then go with what works.

This exactly what I said, before my post was sliced & diced by Shadow...

I think one has to be very wary of Absolute truths and just simply listen to your body.

Studies are there to show you statistical data, but as with all statistical data, there is an error margin. At best, studies will tell you the starting point. From there on, you have to see what works best for you, based on your own experimentation.

As Shadow said, maybe using milk instead of water does not make a big difference in you... so go for mil if it tastes better, but do taste the other solution to really be able to tell whether there is a difference or not.

I agree 100% with the above.

The top and bottom of it is this:

My PWO shake is made up of 40g whey and 70g of dextrose mixed with water.

All im after is a way where i can drink the whey without the dextrose and taht it wont absorb too quickly. At the moment its 4:30pm and i want to top up my protein, but its not that long since i ate and i dont fancy any more food!!

Whey is the only protein powder i have right now and i want to have a shake now to top up the protein in my body. If i mix the whey powder with skimmed milk will this be ok? will it absorb more slowly and see me thru the 2 hours til i next eat?

Let me know

Thanks

Paul

mixing with skim milk will not slow it down to what you need

add whole milk - FAT is what will slow carbs
