Deadlifting my way to Happiness - Al420's log

hmm...wouldn't db presses or bb presses (being such a strict movement) hurt your shoulders more?

I really don't know...wheres Biggt when you need him..........

I hurt my left shoulder doing close grips. I didn't press at all for 2.5 weeks - nothing overhead, nothing for chest - then I started back doing flat a couple times a week and doing BTN PP's once and Strict Standing the other - First couple pressing sessions I didn't do PP's and I have only done them 2x now so I was thinking maybe it was the lift. I really enjoyed them.

Just trying to "listen to my body"....... man that typed :rainbow:

Al...where is your grip on overhead work? Actually, on all pressing for that matter.....if going from BTN hurts and even overhead in general hurts, it may be you just need to develop the flexibility..... BTN full range of motion work, and any full range of motion press are healthy for the shoulders.....pain is usually caused by going too wide, flaring elbows, or a lack of flexibility, or a pre-existing injury from something totally non-lifting related.

When something hurts, the way I say to work around it is find a like movement or at least the next best thing you can do that doesn't irritate it.

Thanks T. My middle fingers are on the rings (2nd rings I think, deff not the first. I will try them closer.

Thats far, man....I'd go maybe slightly, but just slightly wider than shoulder width at the most....like a clean grip would be perfect....it'll protect the shoulders and once you're used to it you'll actually be stronger because you can activate your triceps, which are not gonna do you any good when you're too wide.

hm I press with my middle fingers on the inner rings too...I need to move them in as well then, I've always wanted ot ask thsi but never did haah

Dangit, I just switched my fingers out a bit to middle finger on ring also. Felt like a was pinching a nerve in my elbow with pinkies a little inside the rings. Any chance you have a pic of how its supposed to look?

Weight this AM: 229.5

Todays workout:

BTN Push Press:Bar x a lot, 95x5, 135x5, 145x5, 155x5, 155x1, 155x5 - must maintain focus while doing this lift - I almost dumped it behind me on the 155x1.
Flat Bench:185x5x5 - pretty happy w/ this
Incline DB:55x15, 55x13, 55x12

Did some close grip push downs to finish off. Tomorrow is a squatting party.

A trainer at the gym (ex Div1 powerlifter) came up to me today and said I looked jacked. It is always nice to hear that. I look at myself in the mirror and like what I see. My shoulders and traps are very noticable right now, and I love them :qt:

How'd the closer grip work on those presses?

Also, if you're going to keep rambling about your throbbing traps, I think you're obligated to post some pics. Uh, for the ladies, of course. :rainbow: ;)

Nice workout man! I know what you mean about dumpin' it behind ya... Where's that lazer like focus when you need it ----> :coffee: (double shot of expresso)

lol...yeah, worthless without pics :p :qt: :rainbow:  :chomp: :verygood:

It is tough. It's a flexability thing at this point. BtN PP's are no joke. That top bone on my spine is still trying to get in the way a bit. On sets 3-5 (even the failed set) I focused on flexing my giant traps and it went much better. Hardest part is lowering the weight - but I'm guessing that is the same for most others.

Pics are coming - waiting for FFquads to come to town. My wife is boycotting this process already - thinks I talk about it and eating to much - so I may be single and free soon lol :worried:

I think I was looking at a girl way too hard. I swear it was needed, and would have been done by any of you - ladies included. This girl was not a regular at my gym but she must be at another as she was as hard as I have ever seen. There is just something about a really fit girl. What a mind fuck. My wifes boycott is effecting my sex life. You know what they say about sending your man to Vegas w/out a blowjob sendoff........lol
