Carb of choice.........

If I see another yam or sweet pototoe, I'll lose it......so, I'm thinking of changing my lunch carb of choice to brown rice......maybe in a wrap or something.........I've been purusing fitday to try and come up with an equavilent in rice to a 6-7 oz yam.......is it about a 1/2 cup? Seems so small........anyone know or use brown rice in their diets??? Just curious....thnx.

I just wanted to know the equivalent of the two........so I know whether to eat 2 or 3 boxes for each meal :chomp:

jkurz -

try this....saute some fresh ginger and garlic in a pan with a little bit of butter. add 3 tablespoons of heavy cream and let simmer for 10 minutes. stick it all in a food processor with a cooked sweet potato and puree until smooth.

it's FANTASTIC.

Although it was a nice suggestion, I'm not looking to alter the yams, I want a different food..........so I'm going with Brown Rice.........thanks though

ALso, I care wayyyy to much about my physique to be using butter and heavy whipping cream....sounds like CKD diet but you are tossing in carbs, which is a hugeeeee mistage, IMO........I hope you alter this recipe........just go with the yam, garlic and skim.........all good :worried:
 
I love fruit - peaches, apples, bananas, melon/watermelons, grapes! Oats, barley, beans/lentils - are excellent choices also - lotsa fiber and naturally occuring minerals :o

(1 cup) brown rice has 216 calories (45g carbs)

(1 cup) yams has 177 calories (42g carbs) = about a 5.2 ounce yam

btw I know this goes without saying but those stats are for 1 cup of COOKED brown rice.. uncooked it's about 150g of carbs in 1 cup
 
Karma up Bran - For a minute, I thought I was speaking french................

Man, and I only had a heaping 1/2 cup today............guess its a heaping full cup tomorrow..............no wonder I'm so damn hungry!
 
brown rice isnt a good substitution imo... limited amount of nutrients and high GI... not much better than white rice in actuallity...

there are some reasonably good rices.. i believe its some kind of "long grain" whatchamacallits....
