Ok I just bought a new Lange skinfold caliper.I took a couple of readings as per there directions.I come out to have 15 % body fat.Now heres my question? The chart reads male ages 40-49 I am 15% body fat but the same measurements of a total 24mm under ages 17-29 I would be 10.5%,ok what does age have to do with it? yes I am 43yrs old male. But I thought I was lower. My stats are 43yrs old 5'9" 164lbs in the bare nice muscle definition, decent veins in arms front of shoulders and on lower abs.please advise Thank you.Im a fat man...........lol

Questions:

Were you happy with the way you looked before you took the readings? Are you satisfied with your progress, training, and diet? Are you doing all that you can do?

If so, take the reading with a grain of salt and don't let it discourage you. The mirror, and how your clothes fit, beat the calipers any day of the week.

It's VERY difficult to do accurate readings on yourself.
I have a pair of the digital ones, and they're ok.
But I'm with Stryc, I pay more attention to how I look in the mirror first thing in the morning. If you spend some time taking a good look, you can usually tell what's going on bf wise.

those age ranges are generalizations. if you are athletic and have been for a long time, its safe to say you are more in the range of the younger group. those figures take into account the fact that most people as they age tend to have more visceral fat so the outside BF reading can be the same as that of a 25 year old but the older guy can still have a pretty big gut.
