Bulking on low/moderate carbs

you carb up for one 24-36 hour period, you don't spread it out into separate carb up periods?

I want to gain 15-20lb of LBM by January with minimal fat gain, would I do more frequent or less frequent, bigger, carb ups?

for a big carb up, your meals you eat until you feel full or do you have a set amount?

do you think eating during an entire 24-36 hour period has an advantage over only carb up meals 4 times weekly, the last 2 meals for each day.

YOu get a stronger anabolic effect from spending 4+ days depleting yourself of carbs, then carbing until your glycgogens stores are as full as possible. So yes, I recomend not carbing up 4 times a week. I carb up until I start to feel bloated or full. On average about 1500 grams.

So carb up all at once for 24 hours? 5 on, 2 off?

Today I had carbs this morning just because I haven't been able to sleep at all so I feel like shit and need to get through my day.

I did the 800-1000g carb thing, but then I became a 22% bodyfat fatass.

No thank you, I am on a mission to 5%.

Also, incase you didn't know, there are studies that suggest anything over 40-50g carbs gets stored as fat since you don't get to use it. This might change if you workout immidietely afterwards though. 250g in one sitting is just looking to be a sumo wrestler.

I am 230 with abs and I have been doing this for about 3 weeks. If you are on a mission to 5% you can forget bulking. By the way, what was the context of the study concerning putting on bf if you consume over 40-50g's of carbs in one study (that's a nice blanket statement). I would be willing to bet my ass that it wasn't with intensely training Bb'ers trying to put on muscle mass. It was probably in post-menopausal women who lead sedentary lifestyles. Check your sources. No, I don't look like a sumo wrestler. I have a fast metabolism and I am 6'2. I actually have lost a few pounds the last couple of days eating 250 pre and post workout carbs. Maybe I am a freak. Not meaning to flame, just giving you my opinion.

AlbinoAssassin, the statement that the body's prefered source of fuel is carbs is a false statement. The body's prefered fuel source is whatever you happen to feed the most off for a long peroid of time. The reason people in modern American seem to burn carbs as their primary fuel source is because we grew up on processed sugars, white bread, boxed cereal, soda, etc. If you switch to a keto diet for a few months, your body will accept ketosis as a natural state, and is more than happy to burn fat for most of its needs. Also bear in mind that you are NEVER burning just carb, fat or protien calories. You just burn a certain percentage of each at different times, however you are burning all three every second of your life. No trying to get into this arguement, just dispelling a common myth you stated with a little science.

I am very aware that your body's preferred fuel source is whatever you consume the most of, of course that is after a sustained period of time. Why do you think most people who eat low carbs feel like shit and don't have good workouts (when compared to when they are eating more carbs). Of course you are never burning just one fuel source, that's pretty obvious. However, I don't think it's a myth that your body runs more efficiently with a sufficient amount of carbs as opposed to a ketotic diet. I have never known anyone who says they feel better on a low carb diet (all things being equal). Why do you think pre-contest bb'ers feel like hell and struggle through workouts even when they are in the wonderful state of ketosis? I have trained with a lot of competitive bb'ers and they always say, damn it feels good to be eating carbs again. I realize these statements are opinions, but I have never heard anyone argue it before. Whatever works for you is what you should do. Do you think high level bb'ers bulk on low carbs, hell no (with the exception of Palumbo). Good luck! Hope you get large and peeled.

I believe macrophage69alpha had posted it in the anabolic board, I may be mystaking. It was a while ago ...

Brother, if you can eat that many carbs and still have abs, than more power to you ... oh and, I hate you. ;)

Bodytypes have a lot to do with it, IMO. In this game, we have to figure out what works best for our body based on our bodytype (endo/ecto/meso).

Albino, I don't know about having shitty workouts. I do a keto diet year round, and I have people on the training board actually posting new threads questioning the weights I handle, calling me a liar. Granted, I think they are very weak if they think my numbers are unbelievable, because I've met guys who are alot stronger. However, the point is, I manage some pretty brutal workouts and handle respectable poundages on low carbs. In fact, during my carbups, if I workout, I don't see any increase in strength or stamina in the weightroom.

The reason preconstest bodybuilders feel like bad, and loose strength? It could have something to do with burning alot more calories than they are taking in, and overtraining from the volume of their workouts and cardio. Just an educated guess.

i don't handle carbs well at all and believe what sk said about over 40 to 50g carbs a day. i was doing 100g carbs a day from oatmeal (all at breakfast) and fat loss was at a stand still. cut the oatmeal out, changed my carbs to all vegetables and felt 1000 times better. i actually feel worse after my carb ups, too lethargic.

i am going to bulk this winter, with lower carbs than the average person. after 2 years of straight hardcore dieting i have 100% faith i will be able to add 5 to 8 pounds of muscle with less than 5 to 8 pounds of fat. it's individual, i feel this low carb approach is best for me. if i ate 250g of carbs a day i'd be a fat guy. but how great it must be to eat all those carbs. i'm truely jealous.

I can't sleep at all.. I never can sleep good but I can't sleep at all now, might not be from the low carb, could be something else.. do you think that's it tho?

Do you guys think by next March I can add 35lbs and keep my bodyfat the same or even lower it -- i'm still new to the sport? --Won't be all a bulk, I'll cut down too.
