Bulking on low/moderate carbs

AlbinoAssassin said:
You call that ample carbs for growth! I eat 250g's pre and post workout. I eat around 1,000g's of carbs a day. Of course your body uses them for daily functioning, do you think your body is gonna pass up it's preferred fuel source to store it as glycogen. You're body's main concern is not to maintain muscle, but to maintain brain function and essential body processes. Some of it will definitely be stored as glycogen, but not enough. Lifting intensely without carbs (when attempting to bulk) is like driving a car with square tires. I just don't get it. Somebody try to help me out.

AlbinoAssassin, the statement that the body's prefered source of fuel is carbs is a false statement. The body's prefered fuel source is whatever you happen to feed the most off for a long peroid of time. The reason people in modern American seem to burn carbs as their primary fuel source is because we grew up on processed sugars, white bread, boxed cereal, soda, etc. If you switch to a keto diet for a few months, your body will accept ketosis as a natural state, and is more than happy to burn fat for most of its needs. Also bear in mind that you are NEVER burning just carb, fat or protien calories. You just burn a certain percentage of each at different times, however you are burning all three every second of your life. No trying to get into this arguement, just dispelling a common myth you stated with a little science.

I did the 800-1000g carb thing, but then I became a 22% bodyfat fatass.

No thank you, I am on a mission to 5%.

Also, incase you didn't know, there are studies that suggest anything over 40-50g carbs gets stored as fat since you don't get to use it. This might change if you workout immidietely afterwards though. 250g in one sitting is just looking to be a sumo wrestler.

AA, yes I'm an endo-mesomorph. I was 35% bf when I started traing. I actually got down to 4% for my first show, then did a bulking cycle and ate everything I could get my hands on an hit 20% again in 8 weeks.

Yes, steroid users need to take in more calories and protien than natty's, however it is only a moderate amount. I use a little t3 when bulking for the synergistic anabolic effect of combining it with steroids to enhance protien synthesis. t3 at low doses is anabolic. At moderate or high doses it is the oposite. It becomes extremely catabolic. Besides, my thyroid output has always been a little low, and I've been prescribed 12.5 mcg of cytomel in the past before I ever used steroids.

My diet is pretty simple. 5 ibs of ground turkey or beef every day, tons of green veggies (about a ibs of romain lettace topped with an olive oil based dressing), and throw in natty peanut butter, macadamia nutts, brazil nutts and swiss cheese as needed. I carb up for 24-36 hours a week. I try to get about 1500 grams of carbs for my carb up.

My routine changes so much from week to week, but here is what stays the same.
Sunday/Tuesday/Thursay legs & back
Monday/Wednesday/Friday chest, shoulders & arms

I do 2-4 sets per bodypart during each workout, everything to failure. I do alot of striping sets, drop sets, supersets and trisets. I keep my rest peroids very short (under 30 seconds for most sets). I do two cardio sessions per week. Usuall HIIT, however last night I did an hour of moderate intensity cardio, and still had a killer leg workout this morning. Did my hack squats with a narrow footing (ankles touching, toes angled outward slightly), and did 5 plates and a 10 on each side, and my sl deads with 405 for 5 reps (new record, only got 4 reps last time). Leg ext, leg curls and thigh abductors were 8-10 reps each with the whole stack. Did 20 reps on the donkey calf raise with the entire stack and a 200 ibs guy sitting on top (had him jump off for my drop set 10 seconds later). So the hour of cardio last night didn't hurt my leg workout at all. I was worried it would.

Body,

What do you think of 50mcg t3 instead of 12.5mcg? Do you think it will have the same effect or it might interfere with muscle gain?

Also, do you cycle the t3 or just stay on it the whole cycle?

---

1500carbs? Damn. Don't you think it might be worth it to spread that out throughout the week instead? I mean it'll still be under 220g carbs/day, or do you think that will be bad for fat gain?

Thanks.

sk, I stay on, my doctor thought I should be on t3 all the time anyways. 50 mcg is too much for your bulking cycle yes. 12.5-25 is enough. 50 mcg will be more catabolic to your muscle tissue than the increase in protien sythesis will be anabolic. It might interfear with gains. I do 25 all the way through.

Hmm, okay 25 sounds good. :)

After your carb-up, don't you feel really bloated? I bet weight will go up by 10lbs or so?

I go up about 3 to 4 ibs actually. I only feel bloated if I ate too much salt. ONce you begin to feel bloated, you should end your carb up immediately. That is a sign that you have taken in all that you can store as glycogen, and they are now spilling over. You risk gaining bf.

You must eat a lot of PB,nuts and cheese to get 338 g of fat....

Meat and the dressing have alot. I can knock of a jar of natty pb in a day easily. 224 grams of fat per jar.
