Bulking on low/moderate carbs

AA, how much bodyfat do you put on during your bulks?

And how much lbm do you add?

When you cut what do you do?

I have put on about 25 pounds since May. I would say that about 19 or 20 of it is muscle (just a guess though). My BF% was about 7% when I started trying to put weight on. I wasn't on a diet to get to that bf% either. In the past when I have cut, I cycled my carbs. I would go 150 for 3 days and then go 400 on the 4th day. I won't do cardio anymore, it makes me go flat because I lose weight too fast. I will also probably keep my carbs a little higher next time.

I believe macrophage69alpha had posted it in the anabolic board, I may be mystaking. It was a while ago ...

Brother, if you can eat that many carbs and still have abs, than more power to you ... oh and, I hate you. ;)

Bodytypes have a lot to do with it, IMO. In this game, we have to figure out what works best for our body based on our bodytype (endo/ecto/meso).

I know that I am in a minority to be able to eat that many carbs and not balloon up. Bodytypes definitely play a huge role in how you need to eat. It's very individual. I was actually just bitching to somebody how fast I drop weight if I don't force feed myself. It's really tough when it's hot like it is right now. I get sick of eating. I never thought I would say this but I actually want to go on a diet. Before you know it I'll say I want to use the pink handweights and leg warmers. Shoot me.

Albino, I don't know about having shitty workouts. I do a keto diet year round, and I have people on the training board actually posting new threads questioning the weights I handle, calling me a liar. Granted, I think they are very weak if they think my numbers are unbelievable, because I've met guys who are alot stronger. However, the point is, I manage some pretty brutal workouts and handle respectable poundages on low carbs. In fact, during my carbups, if I workout, I don't see any increase in strength or stamina in the weightroom.

The reason preconstest bodybuilders feel like bad, and loose strength? It could have something to do with burning alot more calories than they are taking in, and overtraining from the volume of their workouts and cardio. Just an educated guess.

I am actually speaking from experience because I did the anabolic diet and was not restricting my calories at all, but I didn't gain any weight. My strength was actually maintained and maybe even increased (but I did just come off of basically a pre-contest diet, so my calories were probably doubled). There is definitely some truth to what you said about pre-contest bb'ers ovetraining, and how it affects strength levels. I know a few guys who don't do any cardio pre-contest and still fall apart though. That might be due to the fact that they eat crazy carbs year round until pre-contest time and their body is shocked pretty hard by the drastic drop in carbs. You have undoubtedly adapted and become quite adept to low carb eating, if it ain't broke don't fix it. Continued success to you!

Most pre-contest bodybuilder also keep their fat intake very low. On CKD fats are kept high and used as source of energy. I feel better doing a CKD then following a carb based diet.

I agree with your theory on the shock to their body. They rely too heavily on an extremely high carb intake the rest of the year, and have trained their body to rely upon carbs, and use very little fat for fuel. Once they go on the diet, it will take a long time for their body to learn to use fat as a fuel source, thus they fall apart. I think it takes time to adapt enough to make great gains on an the anabolic diet or a CKD for bulking. I'm up 30 ibs now from the pic in my avatar, weighed in at 230 even on friday morning. A little puffier than I care to be, but damn I looked big in the mirros while training. Definately the biggest I've ever looked. Usually I think I look tiny. Good luck to your in your endevors as well. From chatting with you it sounds like what you are doing is working well for you.
